26. A circus in a company of performers who put on down of acrobats clowns etc. to entertain people
started around 250 years back, in open fields, now generally performed in tents. One such ‘Circus
Tent’ is shown in figure. The tent is in the shape of a cylinder surmounted by a conicl top. If the
height and diameter of cylindrical part are 9 m and 30 m respectively and height of conical part is
8 m with same diameter as that of the cylindrical part, then find

i) the area of the canvas used in making the tent.

ii) the cost of the canvas bought for the tent at the rate 200 per sq. m, if 30 sq.m canvas was wanted
during stitching.
27. Case Study :
Adventure camps are perfect place for the children to practice decision making for themselves
without parents and teachers guiding their every move. Some students of a school reached for
adventure at Sakleshpur. At the camp, the waiters served some students a welcome drink in
cylindrical glass and some students in a hemispherical cup whose dimensions are shown below.
After that they went for a jungle trek. The jungle trek was enjoyable but triring. As dusk fell,
it was time to take shelter. Each group of four students was given a canvas of area 551 m2.
Each group had to make a conical tent to accommodate all the four students. Assuming that all
the stitching and wasting incurred while cutting would amount to 1m2. The students put the
tents. The radius of the tent is 7m.

d=7cm
h=10.5cm

d=7cm
2
Area = 551 m r=7m

i) Find the volume of the cylindrical cup

ii) Find the volume of the hemispherical cup
iii) Which container had more juice and by how much?
iv) Find the height of the conical tent prepared to accommodate four students
v) How much space on the ground is occupied by each student in the conical tent?
