PCA-Structural Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the structural frame
2. Apply the structural frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

“X” formally known as “Twitter” is a social media platform that owner Elon Musk
bought a little over a year ago promising to be a true free speech platform that would
allow news to be spread across the platform without being labeled as “misinformation”
purely based off it’s idealogical position. The takeover was a massive one due to the
billionaire owner already owning other major companies and the massive layoff and
firing of employees that soon followed.

2) Describe how the structure of the organization influenced the situation.

Elon Musk, a massive figure in the tech industry, is known for his innovation and
leadership, notably with being the head of Tesla and SpaceX. Beyond business, he
engages actively on social media, particularly Twitter or “X”, where he has a significant
following and shares updates on his ventures and personal views. Musk's potential
takeover of Twitter could have occured for reasons to include strategic acquisition,
leveraging his resources and influence. This move would align with his vision of shaping
technology and communication's future, given Twitter's global influence as a prominent
social media platform.

3) Recommend how you would use structure for an alternative course of action
regarding your case.

I would focus organizational structure on the areas I feel are important. Those areas are;
flexibility, adaptability, employee engagement, and satisfaction within an organization. A
rigid structure can hinder quick responses to market changes, whereas a flexible one
fosters innovation and resilience. Additionally, the structure influences employees'
perceptions of their roles and growth opportunities. Hierarchical structures may lead to

disengagement, while flat structures promote empowerment and inclusivity, enhancing
satisfaction and retention. This directly impacts the organization's culture, talent
attraction, and productivity, ultimately affecting its performance and success .

When Elon Musk took over Twitter, it seemed to be more of a “power” move rather than
a making a difference and changing the structure of twitter. Although I agree with his
reasoning, the frame in which he could have approached the takeover could have been a
little different. Like instead of firing all those people at the old Twitter, he could have
given more insight to his vision for the company and maybe would have been able to
keep the people that left due to company culture disagreements.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

I would not do much different if I was in the position of Elon Musk, he had a vision for
what he wanted the Social Media platform to be and was unhappy with the censorship of
any idea’s that did not align with “Twitter” who would remove posts and other
information if they deemed it “misinformation”. Musk decided to take action and take
over the company and make it “better” in accordance with his own vision for social
media. Now, I probably would have also fired the top executives, but I would have kept
most of the people that were fired, unless they wanted to leave on their own. In order to
create the true free speech platform, I feel it is important to have people from across the
board within the company, because what is stopping it from going back to how it was, but
now in reverse.
