SUB-STRAND Parts of speech-Prepositions
CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOME At the end of the lesson students should be able to:
- Identify the prepositions
- Differentiate between preposition of place and time

LESSON NOTES
Almost all words have a “part of speech”. Which part of speech a word has depends on how it is used in a
sentence. Here is a list of the eight parts of speech:

Preposition: A preposition is a word that shows the relationship between its object and some other word in a
sentence.
Example: The birds flew through the air. In this example, the word “through” is a preposition because it is
used to show the relationship between word “flew” and its object “the air”.

Prepositions of Place: at, in, on

Example
 Jane is waiting for you at the bus stop.
 Do you live in Japan?
 There was a "no smoking" sign on the wall.

Example
 I have a meeting at 9am.
 In England, it often snows in December.
 Her birthday is on 20 November.
