STEPS TO CONVERT Adobe Encore Format, DVD Subtitle System, MAC DVD Studio Pro

and Pinnacle Impression files TO TRANSTATION DUB FORMAT

Do your translation following our usual format for DUB scripts:

Open your preferred software for timing. If your software is for subtitling, since your
script will contain the character’s names instead of dialogues only, make sure to add the
timing only to those “subtitles” identified with the character’s names. This is important
to change the format later on. Time your file as you usually would.
Notice that only the names of the characters have timecodes.

Once you have finished timing the whole file, save it as Adobe Encore Format, DVD
Subtitle System, MAC DVD Studio Pro or Pinnacle Impression.

Open your file with Microsoft Word. Your dialogues should look like this:
Delete those timecodes that don’t have any purpose, all those that are in zero. Use the
Find and Replace option in Word. Make sure to add a space after the last zero. Don’t
add anything in the ‘Replace’ function:

Your script should look like this after that process:

Next, use Find and Replace to convert this format to the Transtation DUB format. Follow
these steps carefully.

Step One: Copy the two timecodes that have a space between them. The first one
reflects the frames and the second one, reflects the hour. Keep in mind that the changes
we will make will depend on how the video is prepped. Some videos are prepped
starting from hour 00 and others start at hour 01, which is the case for the novelas. For
the timeframe code, we will only copy the last number, and do an individual
replacement from 0 to 9. Make sure to add a space after the number, so the
replacement can be properly done. We are going to replace:

“0 00:” with “0>01:”

“1 00:” with “1>01:”

“2 00:” with “2>01:”

Until number 9
Once you finish doing all the replacements, your script should look like this:

Now, let’s add the ending bracket ] to the timecode. Make sure to leave a space after
the number you will add to the ‘Find’ option and also after the bracket ]. This is
important for the conversion to Transtation. We will replace this: 0 Space - 1 Space - 2
Space, etcétera; for this: 0] Space - 1] Space - 2] Space. Do this replacement from 0 to
9.
Once you finish doing all the replacements, your script should look like this:

Step Two: Now, we will make the final replacements to complete our conversion
process. This process will depend on the duration of the video. For novelas, these
usually last around 45 minutes, sometimes 55 minutes. It is important that we are aware
of the duration of the video. Because we are going to make a change in the timecodes
that represent the hour and the minute. For the example we are using, the episode ends
on minute 43. In the following timecode: 01:43:06:00.

Since the software we are using formatted the video to start at hour 00 instead of hour
01, we have to do a replacement. This replacement will be done including the first
number of the minute timecode. Since the video ends at minute 43, that means we have
to replace from 0 to 4 that first number of the timecode that represents the minute. To
do this, copy the first three numbers at the beginning of the timecode. Including the
colon :

Add those three numbers to the Find function 00:0 In the Replace option add the
following format: DUB[0 N 01:0 The numbers in red are the ones that have to be
replaced from 0 to 4 because the video lasts 43 minutes.
Once you finish doing all replacements, your file should look like this:

Make sure to follow the usual steps to clean your file from extra spaces. To check if
there are extra spaces or tabs, use the “Show/Hide” feature in Word. (Follow the
instructions in the dubbing manual, pp. 5.)

Now your file is ready to be used with Transtation. Make sure to use the Ctrl D function
in Transtation to check If there are any errors with your file. And also to finish your
script with DUB[
