Module 1: Introduction to Yoga for Anger Management

My dear brothers and sisters welcome to this presentation and yoga for anger
management. As usual at the start of the prayer.
dhyāyato viṣhayān puṁsaḥ saṅgas teṣhūpajāyatesaṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmāt
krodho ’bhijāyate.
In this beautiful verse from the Bhagavad Gita, we go to understand the very
dimension of anger how it gets originated, and the mechanism. When we think of
an object and are born thinking about it again and again it can be an object it can
be a person it can be an event then attachment develops. Sangha-hotheshupadhaya-
thek he said and from there arises the desire. I want it or I don't want it and when
you don't get to a desire fulfilled you get angry. So, anger gets deluded with desires
and through attachment, this is the whole mechanism. So, in this presentation, we
have eight chapters we have an introduction, then the concept of anger according
to the Western perspective. Anger according to the Eastern perspective and how
the whole development has taken place and can we measure anger and what are the
results of anger most important the 7 chapters integrated yoga practice for gaining
control and mastery over anger and the result has come out a summary of that.
With that, we come to the introduction. You know that there have been tremendous
contributions in our era of science and technology thanks to the airtel and
computers and televisions and everything and the mobile technology, social media.
We have been able to shrink the whole globe into a single village. Sitting in our
rooms, we can be contacting people all around the world. So we have real
challenges as well. The challenge of pollution, pollution of air, water, sound, and
forest depletion, and essentially we were able to meet this challenge in a few years
at least developed countries, if not in developing countries. In the United States, in
Singapore and all these places. Who did we meet this challenge? By controlling
our source, gaining mastery about our action. We said, our automobiles cannot
throw smoke into air in this easily, we started using undered gasoline. Now we
started using battery operated cars and water pollution reduced by controlling the
PPM levels of industrial waste, being thrown into waters very strict measures of
control. Then we put sound barriers in the expressways in the highways to prevent
the sound pollution deffering the years and 20 more and more
trees. Three acres of plantations should be done if we are going to cut down one
acre of plantations, three years back. This is essentially we learn to control our
source. Our desire and greed and anger were getting controlled in the whole
process and the second challenge, the challenge of stress and fortunately we are not
able to meet. It is fast in developing the whole globe and this challenge which is
featured by anger, greed, jealousy, hatred, infatuation, arrogance has started
blindening us. In the field of education, look at what is
happening. Students getting angry and getting restless and the drug culture started
increasing more and more and anger has started showing in the form of gun and
terrorism. What to talk about non-communicable diseases. Anger is the trigger for
high blood pressure.
This is the cause and even cancer, AIDS, diabetes, anxiety, neurosis, psychosis.
All these things are triggered by anger. As a manifest of that stress, leading to pain,
suffering and death, all around the centre and what do we have? A solution we
have wonderful medical interventions, pharmacological interventions, medicines
and if it doesn't work, we have got the surgeries all that we have done and similarly
using modern technology, we have been able to build skyscrapers under water
tunnels, information technology, social media spread. Fantastic diagnostic tools of
various ailments and other imbalances and powerful pharmacological interventions
to deal with them and all the number of surgeries, 5000 types of surgery and
specialist and super specialist and we have been dealing with this but we have no
solution to this model in series. Why? Because our knowledge base in modern
science which part of the basis of our modern science? Your own science and
technology. Is all essentially rooted in this limited knowledge base. Knowledge
base, our physical universe about the structure and the laws. Structure, everything
is physical, which is nothing but molecules atoms, proton, neutron, fundamental
particles, packets of energy, called quark and energy field and the classical
mechanics and quantum mechanics, he was the complete law. Therefore, we have
big success in the physical world. Putting man on the moon, building skyscrapers,
everything but our challenges have grown more sophisticated. More
multilimensional, physical, mental, emotional, intellectual at the base of these is
the stress and anger and since these challenges are multilimensional and since our
knowledge base is only physical one-dimensional. We have no solution failure to
meet the challenge. Whatever we out, it's here. It becomes with a total knowledge
base of the entire universe and yoga provides the tensor. Often yoga is thought of
as mere physical exercises, if not as a rope trick or magic and others. For from this
limited, wrong notions about yoga. Yoga is a science of holistic cleaving. It's a
conscious process to transform ourselves to accelerate the growth process from an
animalistic level. In which we are drawn by fear, anger, steep, food, Sahara, nidra,
vaya, maithana and procreation. From there, we raise our center become normal
human beings use the power of discrimination and in that process, we start moving
from tamas to rajas and from rajas, we have to go further to sattva to become great
human beings. In rajas, we are drawn by our lower qualities, the wrong qualities.
Anger, greed, jealousy, hatred, infatuation, arrogance, karma, Krotha, lovah, moha,
matha, maitha, maitha, maithsarya and from there we raise to the level of sattva to
become great human beings. Future by sharing, selflessness, compassion, love.
Overcoming the anger and raising the higher and higher to states of higher
happiness, bliss and others. From there, we raise to the superhuman heights,
understanding that we are not just the physical body. We have got another four
bodies called Koshas, the physical body called Anamaya koshas. Then we have
pranamaya Manomaya Vignanana, Anamaya koshas and raise our soul to these
higher levels of consciousness to become superhuman beings with extra sensory
perception, with great and great powers and learn to use this higher powers for the
good of society, for building ideal social orders to manifest that divinity to become
divine human beings and ultimately, we reach that pure consciousness. State of
perfection or Brahman Authman, Divinity or reality. This is what Swami
Vivekananda Heralded in the Parliament of Legends in Chicago. In 1893 also

Karma is karma, yoga and Patanjali yoga is Rajayoga. He said, you can use one,

integral yoga working with all these clubbers and the modern life with matter-
based paradigm. Thinking that everything is physical and we don't have to
postulate anything beyond the body. Whether it is a prana or the mind or the
emotions or the intellect, everything can be the functioning of the brain cells and
therefore, everything is being matter and once we understand matter the physical
world the laws that govern them, the structure, then we know the complete
knowledge base. This is known as the upward causation but soon by late 70s and
early 80s, we realize, no. We cannot create prana or mind or consciousness from
the matter and we have to completely turn tables said great scientist, Nobel

from the causal state called Ananda maya Kosha, where the Vigyanamaya Kosha,
Manomaya Kosha, Pranamaya Koshah, Anandamaya Kosha, Anandamaya Kosha,

So, this knowledge base is very necessary to gain mostly over the anger and our
emotional outbursts. So, for that, we had to bring this entire knowledge base into
our education system. With the objective of bringing 4-4 percentage development
and 4-4 consciousness growth and we started bringing this in the school
curriculum. Starting from the primary secondary and higher secondary education
and why don't it? For being available to all people. For I said temperament, voice
culture, physical stamina development, memory development, high food
development, creativity development just management you want greed
management and bring service, service and civic
sense, national awareness and spiritual urge and anger management. So, in this
presentation, we talk about anger management and I said, in the 7 chapters, we
have the complete understanding. In the 8th, we give the research perspective
combining the contributions of the
best. So, what is anger? According to the western perspective anger, also known as
wrath or rage is an intensity, a very, very intense, very powerful, emotional state.
Involving is strong uncomfortable and non-cooperative response to a perceived
provocation. Hurt or
threat we all know anger causes a person to be tempted to take revenge on
someone or something that's how the psychologist defines
anger and what the result of that in the body, there is a big imbalance. There are
centers in the brain called rage centers we trigger, by an external demanding
situation and it shows up as autonomic imbalance and endocrine imbalance
tiggered by the hypothalamus. The 5th channel is anger in which our brain
prepares our body to overpower a threat while we don't usually think of fear and
anger. As we close the related, there are two sides of the same coin. They are both
housed in the amygdala in the brain. So, we had a wonderful finding of these
emotional centers in the brain. The investigator dressed in Congress team in a

triggering a piece center in the brain you will be able to calm down. Therefore,
everything in the brain said this thing and people have started seeing how even the
genes are related anger in the modern human system. So, in summary, according to
the western perspective, anger is functioning the
brain cells essentially in the right load and correspondingly the consequence and
the result of that is that you have to have a body, you have to have a brain to have
anger to have the mind to have the emotions that is the understanding or the
matter-based paradigm which I mentioned. But how do we understand anger in the
eastern perspective, the yoga? In yoga, we understand that we are not just physical
body as I mentioned we have four more bodies five Koshas, as we call. In the
Anandamaya Kosha, it is a bliss field, Anandamaya bliss and here we are in a state
of complete bliss. Everything is in the seed form, everything is in the potential
form and there is no anger there, there is no greed, jealousy, and others if at all,
they are all in the potential form. From there, when we come to the Vigyanamaya
Kosha, the manifestation takes from the potential to the kinetic form it comes. The
seeds sprout and starts showing up and here, the thinking starts and the mind starts
working. Intellect starts functioning and the sense of differences come but you are
having all the knowledge of the whole creation. You know what is happening in
the future? What is happening now? Trikala gyana. Therefore, in this state, the
human beings or the superhuman beings will all do actions in tune with the cosmic
class, in tune with what is right in tune with the nature, in its totality. Therefore,
there is no anger that is causing the diseases and the misery and the pain and others
and then a state of absolute, wonderful balance. So, this is state of mastery and we
can say, it is a state of stress free maturity. From there, when you come down
slowly, the wrong notions start coming. The knowledge gets reduced and you start
coming down and slowly the emotions start. As I said, the mind gets speeded up
and a trigger from outside, a demand situation from outside, we start engulfing you
and getting stuck and unable to come out of the thinking loop and that looping
continuously goes on and on and comes out of that is the attachment that
attachments, these two desires, raga and dwesha and in that you have the anger
produced. So, it is all in the manomaya kosha in that anger starts and in a
generalized sense, it is the stress that begins in the manomaya kosha causing all
this wrong emotions, negative
emotions, kama, krodha, lobha, moha, madha matsarya and then start coming
down to the physical frame and so, beautifully brought out in the gita model that
anger, result of that is disturbed awareness. You get infatuated and you start
closing your memory to do the right actions and lead to mental illness Budhi nasha
and comes down to the physical diseases and you have the destruction in the end.
So, from the manomaya kosha comes down to the pranamaya kosha causing
imbalances ,anger is an imbalance it is a stress that the manomaya kosha comes
down into pranamaya kosha causing imbalances in all aspects of the prana. Prana,
apana, Buddha, and Samana and everything and that shows up in the physical body
as the stress reaction and the stress reaction is the anger reaction and what happens
there? Our chakrasu fit in an eyes, central eyes, balancing all gets disturbed in the
whole process. Fortunately, you can measure these chakras today using the bio-val.
When it comes down to the physical body, shows up as stress reaction and it gets
lost. So, anger is a component of stress so simple front side. So, don't try to
suppress emotions. You know, give free vent to them when you get angry, you just
give vent to the anger. Otherwise, it will get suppressed and they will end up with
hysteria on many other things that's fine. So, not suppress but giving free went has
not given the solution. Freedom has turned itself into license and this is the one
that leads to all hazards. So, freedom has brought the children and they got into
license, student on the alcohol, sex family, divorce, or another increase. Why?
Yoga says that when you try to give the sense of objects for the sense demand, then
there is an increase in demand. It is something like putting ghee on the fire, butter.
So, look at now the challenge if you try to control, you get suppressed. If you give
free vent, you have license. What are the way out for dealing with anger and stress
and it is called sublimation. It is not suppression, it is sublimation. What
sublimation ? Sublimation is featured by slowing down. What is that slowing
down? There is a novish driver who is running and overtaking all automobiles in
front, going at 100 miles per hour this is a red light. He is hopeful by the time he
reaches and it is going to turn green He is very near, hardly a few meters away and
red has not turned green and there is a police supervisor ready to catch. He jumps
his brake All the people are shattered inside. What about an expert driver? He is
also going fast and as you see, the red light starts slowing down. 100, 50, 10 comes
to a smooth halt and that is the pros of slowing down in the mind. So, gaining
mastery over emotions by the pros of sublimation. We have wonderful tools of the
bhakti session, the devotional session in which we have intensive techniques to
invoke the emotions consciously. Intensify them and diffuse them to silence and
that is what we do in this thing. So, there are intensive methods to do that and the
extensive methods to do that, that is the anusandhana that we have. So, in the
extensive methods every morning you determine, I am not going to become angry,
in the night you make a record of that and again take a resolve in the night before
you sleep but just tomorrow I am not going to become angry and the whole night
this thing goes into your memory store and when you get up, yes, I am not going to
become angry. With this continued practice, you will find that gradually get
overcome. So, become angry and what happens? You gain control over your action
of anger hitting others and terrorizing others . From there you start being down to
the watch-hallevel that the talk-level comes to the mind level. Even if the mind
anger will go away that the whole process and this is what has happened in our
entire developmental process. According to Western science, we are all born from
our ancestors, the monkeys and we have grown continuously over centuries and
thousands and thousands of years come to this level. So, our brain has become so
sophisticated, complicated and highly developed with a right portion of the globe
we have wonderful dimensions and in the process we have the three qualities.
There is Tamas, Rajas and Satva and anger is uncontrolled in Rajas. It gets
originated in Rajas to a great extent we have to move to Satva. In Rajas, anger is
manifest, tremendously and these are the three personality traits that we have and
we have to move from Tamas to Rajas to Satva in the process. We are the human
beings who have freedom that is the speciality that we have. Man alone is the
architect of his own destiny we start working on that. So, start using yoga and we
use the third approach of yoga. Complete integrator approach of yoga to bring
about this changes and is it possible to measure anger? Yes. So, we have got tools
to measure the anger, it will be brought forth in this entire presentation which you
are going to do this thing. So, we have to and we all know the hazards of anger. So,
the health effects of extreme anger is unbelievably great. All these senses have this
anger at the base. Therefore, we have to work on that thing and see you overcome
the dimension. So, we have to go back to Set our Chakra to normalcy and thereby
start going. So, the whole objective of anger management is to retain our state of
health, Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanam, Aturasya Vikara Prashamanam”, as
yoga says and Ayurveda says and that is how we do that and the integrated yoga
practices.Or the ones that we use here at all levels. To overcome the challenge of
ignorance, to reduce the speed of mind
and again, must you or the mind and anger. To reduce emotional obsurges and to
reduce the speed of breathing and at the body level.
You add the dimension of relaxation in all yoga practices. Deal with pathological
conditions. Deep relaxation techniques. You know, this all done the all the levels
therefore, we use at the anamaya kosha level we have the kriyas and the
Sukshmvayma and then the loosening practices and the asanas and important Good
diet Healthy diet. In the pranamaya kosha we use the several breathing practices.
Secussion breathing and kriyas and also the Pranayama to slow down the breath ,
in the manomaya kosha we use the science of emotion culture to devote transition
and kriya yoga and beautiful songs and music therapy comes into picture and we
have the dharana and the dhyana meditation put forth there. In the vigyanmaya
kosha understanding the whole mechanism of action is brought about. Therefore,
we will be able to deal with that and gain and in the anandamaya kosha we go in
the wonderful state of bliss and doing all actions in that blissful awareness. A
stress-free condition and for that we use the happy assembly and the kriya yoga
and others. All these things we will for them the total dimension of this course
yoga for anger management for developing ourselves to the highest heights of
perfection. I am sure you will all enjoy, learn and use this to gain your souls and
