3 Resources
3.1 Facilities. Oscillating or hydropulse unit with closed loop force control and cycle counter. The test device
shall be suitable for dynamic forces of 100 N to 500 N with regard to a test frequency range of 10 Hz to 20 Hz
(sine). The test facility shall have a valid International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certificate which is
noted in a test report.
3.1.1 Calibration. The test facilities and equipment shall be in good working order and shall have a valid
calibration label.
3.1.2 Alternatives. Alternative test facilities and equipment may also be used. However, all measuring variables
as specified in this standard shall be determined correctly with respect to their physical definition.
3.2 Equipment.
3.2.1 Peak Value Recorder. To automatically record the force/travel amplitude, with automatic shutoff for the
testing machine when the force/travel amplitude exceeds the adjusted limiting values.
3.2.2 Test Piece Mounting and Force Application. The test piece shall be mounted such that the hanger
fastening/connection is not impaired (see Figure 1 as an example). The force application shall ensure the
malleability of the hanger. A link of 150 mm with a Universal (U)-joint at both ends shall be installed between
load cell and force application.
3.3 Test Vehicle/Test Piece. At least five (5) new production parts shall be tested. The hanger parts shall be
produced as specified in the assembly drawing.

4 Procedure
4.1 Preparation.
4.1.1 Test Set Up. The test set up shall be performed using the direction of force application determined from
the strain collectives for the respective vehicle type and engine, which is indicated in the Component Technical
Specification (CTS)/drawing specification.
4.2 Conditions.
4.2.1 Environmental Conditions. The test shall be performed at +23 °C ± 5 °C.

4.2.2 Test Conditions. Deviations from the requirements of this standard shall have been agreed upon. Such
requirements shall be specified on component drawings, test certificates, reports, etc.
4.3 Instructions. The strength test shall be performed as a single-step test.
4.3.1 Test force, test frequency, test direction, cycles of failure (N 90%), and maximum permissible dispersion
(N 90%/N 10%) shall be taken from the CTS/drawing specification.

± FP = Fm ± (FT + FD) = Test force at test piece

Where:
FP = Test force at test piece. Shall be taken from CTS/drawing specification.
FT = Inertia force of force application measured from load cell connection. The dynamic influence of the
test device mass shall be taken into account for the test.
Fm = Static preload which shall be taken from CTS/drawing specification.
FD = Dynamic test force at load cell.

4.3.2 At least five (5) parts shall be tested for each type to allow a statistical evaluation according to the
logarithmic normal distribution.
4.3.3 Shutoff criterion for the test is the increase of the oscillation amplitude or the test frequency which
automatically shuts off the testing machine, as soon as the adjusted limiting values are exceeded.
4.3.4 The limiting values shall be 110% maximum of the actual values measured at the beginning of the test.
4.3.5 If no first visible cracks occur, the test may be stopped at N 10% value as specified by CTS/drawing
specification.
4.3.6 A test protocol according to Data Sheet A1, Appendix A shall be used for recording of test data and results
and shall be added to a test report after the test.

5 Data
5.1 Calculations. In order to obtain reliable results for the number of cycles to first visible cracks/fracture
determined in the endurance strength range in comparison to the N 90% value required on CTS/drawing
specification, it is necessary to evaluate them according to the statistical method of fatigue life probability to the
logarithmic normal distribution.
N 50% value: N 50% = Xm
N 10% value: N 10% = N 50% 101.28 log S
N 90% value: N 90% = N 50%/101.28 log S
Period spread: Period spread = Pü 90%/Pü 10%
Note: Calculation of probabilities shall be performed according to the formulas in 5.1.1 and 5.1.2, where no
uncracked test pieces or outliers shall be included.
5.1.1 Mean Value.

Log Xi
[ ]
Xm = 10 n

Where:
n = Number of values
Xi = Crack period

5.1.2 Standard Deviation.

√ 1 Σ(log Xi – log Xm)2

S = 10 n-1
