You should use this checklist to formulate your question

➔ Is my question on an issue under one of the eight topics stated in the syllabus for this

component?

➔ Is my question about an issue that is global in scope?

➔ Does my question allow for research into global and national/local perspectives?

➔ Does my question start with words other than ‘To what extent…’ or ‘How’?

➔ Is my question specific rather than being general and philosophical like ‘What is meant by

sustainable living’?

➔ Are secondary research sources readily available for my question?

➔ Is my question focused enough to be answered at the end from different perspectives and

viewpoints?

Introduction

This is not mentioned as a separate criteria requirement in the syllabus but a precise introduction

must be provided

You should use this checklist to write an effective introduction

➔ Has my introduction defined all necessary terms pertaining to the issue?

➔ Has the issue been suitably explained in my introduction, even for someone completely

unaware about this issue?

➔ Has my introduction set out exactly what I will be answering by the end of the report?

➔ Have I explained my rationale or reasons for choosing this issue?

Issue and Perspectives

➔ An issue is usually a concern or matter within a topic that causes controversy,

disagreement or hardship, has causes and consequences, and is usually a problem which
can be solved with different courses of action

➔ A global issue, which should be focused on for this report, extends beyond local or national

context

➔ A global perspective should show a viewpoint, an opinion, a feeling about, or an attitude

to the global situation or issue raised in the question

➔ A national perspective should show a national viewpoint on the issue presented, or an

opinion, or a feeling about, or an attitude to the national situation

➔ You should use this checklist to write effectively about issue and perspectives

➔ Have I elaborated upon the issue through quoting relevant research sources?

➔ Have I included at least one global perspective and one national perspective on the issue?
