DIGITAL COMPETENCE IN
EDUCATION:

DEFINITION: Digital competence (DC) refers to the


competence that involves the creative, critical and safe use
of new information and communication technologies, and aims
to achieve the objectives of work, employability, learning,
leisure time use, inclusion and participation in society.

DIGITAL COMPETENCE IN
EDUCATION:
It is necessary to know the specific language governing ICT (texts, numbers, icons, visual, sound and graphic environments)

How this language is encoded and transmitted.

It is necessary to know the main computer applications

To know how to consult and use information sources, as well as how to process all the information obtained.

It is also important to highlight the need to know the rights and freedoms that people have in the digital world.

TO ACHIEVE AND DEVELOP THIS COMPETENCE CORRECTLY


• The education system shall ensure the full integration of
DIGITAL students in the digital society and the learning of a
responsible consumption and a critical and safe use of

environmental sustainability, constitutional values,

• Ley Orgánica 3/2020 del 29 Diciembre, which modifies Ley Orgánica 2/2006 del 3 Mayo
on Education (LOMLOE) stresses, in its preamble,

equity and inclusiveness of the system, whose main
backbone is comprehensive education.

through specific content, but also in a transversal way in all
areas.

DIGITAL COMPETENCE IN EDUCATION:

“El acercamiento a textos multimodales y la utilización de herramientas, recursos o apoyos digitales y
soportes como plataformas virtuales, contribuirán al desarrollo de la competencia digital,
concretamente al tratamiento digital de la información en las búsquedas en internet, a la creación,
integración o reelaboración de contenidos digitales o a la participación en actividades o proyectos
escolares con herramientas o plataformas virtuales para la construcción de nuevo conocimiento.”

DIGITAL COMPETENCE IN LOMLOE

• European Digital Competence Framework (DigComp): LOMLOE incorporates digital competence


as a key component in its educational objectives, ensuring a common framework for describing
digital skills in the context of education.
• LOMLOE (Ley Orgánica de Ordenación de la Enseñanza, or the Organic Law of Education
Ordering in Spain) recognizes In LOMLOE, digital competence as a transversal competence.
• Digital competence is included in the curricular area of Education for Digital Citizenship, which
aims to promote the development of safe, critical, and responsible use of digital
technologies.
• This area includes the development of skills such as information and communication technologies
(ICT) use, digital content creation, digital security, and digital rights and responsibilities.
• LOMLOE emphasizes the importance of integrating digital competence into all subjects and
not treating it as a standalone subject.
• Teachers are encouraged to use digital technologies in their teaching to support the
learning of other subjects, such as using online simulations in science classes or digital tools
for collaborative writing in language arts classes.
