“Why Music in Schools”

Good morning, Mr. Schrute. Hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you that

taking away our fine art classes was not a very good decision. Our fine arts programs are some of

the best in the state! Being in music programs has many benefits.

Being in music programs helps improve memory. Music involves a high level of

memorization. Students must be able to read music by sight and recall lyrics. In one study,

musicians outperformed non-musicians in auditory, visual and memory tests. Compared to

memorizing facts, music is a lot easier to memorize. We can use music to help our kids

remember things.

Another productive reason for music is teamwork. Students work together to make a

perfect performance. Teamwork helps later in the real world. Students will have to work with

other students that they do not like and they will have to work with adults that they do not like

later in life as well.

Being in music programs also helps with mental processing and problem solving.

Students are going to have many problems in life. Students will have some problems in music, as

in if they have a wrong note they have to find the right note and fix it.

Being in music programs also gives a student something to do in school that they like.

Many students do not like school and it gives them a place to escape from real life problems even

if it is temporary.

Have a great day, Mr. Schrute!
