TITLE: LOCKWASHER, EXTERNAL TOOTH

1.0 SCOPE

This specification covers the physical properties and dimensional

requirements for external tooth lockwashers, carbon steel, intended for
use in automotive and general industrial applications. They serve to
lock fasteners, such as bolts and nuts to the component parts of an
assembly, or increase the friction between the fasteners and the
assembly.

2.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS

The following documents apply as referenced elsewhere in this

specification. Unless otherwise stated, the latest revision of each
document in effect on the date of the associated purchase order shall
apply.

a. SAE J489B Lockwasher.

b. ANSI B18.21.1 Internal and External Tooth Lockwasher.

c. ES32-114, Zinc Phosphatizing.

3.0 REQUIREMENTS

Unless otherwise specified, all lockwashers purchased in accordance with

this specification shall meet the requirements of ANSI B18.21.1 or SAE
J489B. Unless otherwise specified, washers shall be made from carbon
steel, fabricated and heat treated to a hardness of Rockwell C40-50 or
equivalent.

Finishes stated on drawing shall be as follows:

Item #1 Zinc Plate .0001 - .0004 per ES81-319 Item 3 or 4.

4.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE

All items purchased in accordance with this specification shall meet the
general requirements of the associated purchase order and the specific
quality requirements of either ANSI B18.21.1 or SAE J489B and ES32-114
(if applicable).

5.0 PACKING AND DELIVERY

All items purchased in accordance with this specification shall meet the
packing and delivery requirements of the associated purchase order.
