The graphs give information about the different products and assistance that the Europe nation spent

money on in 1958 and in 2008. Overall, in 2008 the greatest share of spending was on housing
whereas 50 earlier it had been on food.

In 2008 housing was by far the greatest expenditure at 32% of the total, whereas, 50 years earlier
housing had only accounted for just over a fifth of expenses. Other items that saw an increase in the
share of spending over the period were luxury goods, which rose from 7% to 17% and
travel/transport, which show an upward trend from 8% to 17%.

In 1958 food made up 32% of spending, which, interestingly, was the greatest amount of spending on
item in 1958. However, this figure decreased sighnificantly and by 2008 food only consttitued 12% of
spending. Spending on entetainment also dropped dramatically from 13% to just 9% of the total.
Spending on clothing also dropped, but by less significant amounts.
