SPEAKING PART 1: work or study

Do you work or study?

Thái Hà: I’m a student. I’m doing a full-time hospitality course. I’m at FTU, which is the
most pretigious (cao cấp, tốt) university in Việt Nam. I’m in my second year and at the
moment .I’m preparing to attend the last two years of my college in Singapore.

first year → freshman

second year →sophomore

fourth year → senior

Examiner: Are you enjoying it?

Thái Hà: Oh yes, I am. I think it’s exciting/fascinating. I particularly like to interact with
my customers and travelling to different places and this major fits me perfectly. I have
just done an internship at a very well-known hotel in Hanoi. Even though I have a
heavy workload, I have gained a lot of new experience during my internship.

Thái Hà: Yes, I would. I’d really like to learn how to take photos because I love taking
pictures for my friends. This also help to keep my memories alive and capture my
youth. Miriam: Yes, I would. I'd really like to learn how to use computer software to create
new designs. This should also help me create new shades of colour. Using technology in this
way would be really challenging for me, I think.

Examiner: And is there a job you would really like to do in the future?

Thái Hà: Yes, there is. I’d love the chance to become a hotel manager. And if I do well
on my course and get some experience of hotel management at my college, perhaps
my dream will come true. At the moment, my main goal is to graduate with 3.4 GPA.

PART 2:

Describe a time when you learnt sth new

You should say:
- what you learnt (English)
I consider myself as = I am + adj: tôi nghĩ mình ntn đó an adventurous (thích phưu lưu,
khám phá) and talkative person. I love traveling and communicating with people from all over
the world. That is the reason why I choose to study English - a widely spoken language in
the world.
- how you learnt it (talk native speakers)
To be honest, to be frank, to tell you the truth, honestly: thành thật mà nói, I have been
learning English on and off (lúc có lúc không) since I was in elementary school (tiểu học).
However, I did not take English seriously until I was in college. That is because I need an
IELTS certificate in order to study abroad in Singapore. So I hired a tutor to help me become
familiar with the test structure. Moreover, I usually go to famous tourist destinations in Hanoi
- where I could meet a lot of english native speakers and practice speaking english with
them.
- what the result was
As (=Because) I am very determined (quyết tâm) to improve my english/ take my english to
the next level (cải thiện trình độ tiếng anh), I study it every single day. It was extremely
(=very) exhausting (=tiring) (lethargic) at first, but I gradually (dần dần từ từ) get used to it.
Luckily, my tutor is very supportive, she has helped me a lot in improving my speaking skills.
- how did you feel about it
Proud of myself bc I overcame my fear (nỗi sợ) of speaking english. Now I could confidently
handle (xử lý được) basic english conversation with a native speaker and be able to read
news and listen to english podcast. I am super ready to study in Singapore now.
