STUDY
1. Describe your education?
I’m a final year student studying the undergraduate program at Thuong Mai university. So far, it
has been such a pleasant experience and I would recommend my university for any potential
student.
2. What is your area of specialization?
I’m majoring in International Hospitality Management. I’ve always dreamt of becoming a
successful hotel manager so finishing my university would be the first step in pursuing my
dream.
3. Why did you choose to study that major?
As I mentioned earlier, I eager to become a successful hotel manager. I actually got inspired by
one of my cousins who was studying in Hospitality. Afterwards, he got a chance to become
senior manager in a famous international hotel and it gave him an opportunity to work in
international location. Seeing him with his career path fueled my passion for hospitality.
4. Do you like your major? Why or why not?
Personally, I love it so far. It is a combination between theoretical knowledge and practical
activity where I get to actually manage a small-scale restaurant in my university. It gives me a

chance to gain hands-on experience. Plus, the lecturers in my course always go out of their way
to help me.
5. What kind of school did you go to as a child?
Well, my family was not wealthy to put me in a private school or international school, so I went
to a public school near my house. I had such wonderful teachers who have made great influence
in my life and I cannot thank them enough for that.
6. But what's your favorite subject as a child?
When I was younger, I excelled in Math. I used to be able to solve all the problems, including the
advanced ones. I enjoyed that fact that it required me to analyze the question and find a solution
around it.
7. Do you think your country has an effective Education System?
To be honest, I think Vietnamese education system can be improved since at the moment, it is
too focusing on theory and the matter of achieving high score. As a student myself, I sometimes
feel like with some subjects that I’ve learnt in school, I couldn’t find the purpose of using some
knowledge in real life, such as algebra or biology. At the same time, the pressure from parents,
from school in getting high scores, it sometimes makes me feel worthless when I couldn’t get the
score they expect.
8. Are you looking forward to working?
Actually, yes. Since I have been in school for so long, I got fed up a little bit to always have to
worry about assignment. I can’t wait to apply all the knowledge I’ve learnt into real life and
actually contribute to the economy.
WORK
1. Are you currently working or studying?
I am currently work as an English teacher at an English Center called Pasal. I have been working
for 2 years and are looking forwards to many more to come.
2. What are your responsibilities?
Well as I mentioned before, I’m an English teacher so my main responsibility is helping students
improve their English skills, well, speaking skill in particular. I help them correct their
pronunciation, improve their responding ability and fluency as well.
3. Why did you choose that job?
Compiled by: Hoang Anh Tuan
Well, to be fair, I actually stumbled on that job by chance since my major is actually Hospitality.
But I do enjoy helping people, so switching from Hospitality to Education field is just like
changing from helping customers to helping students.
4. If there are some other kinds of work, you would rather do?
Hm, I do want to try to work in Marketing as I enjoy the idea of creating content to attract
people. However, I don’t think I have enough creativity and qualification for that job.
5. Describe the company or organization that you work for
I’m currently working for a well-known English center called Pasal, which has been established
since 2015. The center is quite famous with their exclusive collaboration with Mr. Paul Gruber
and Mr. A.J.Hoge who are famous for their methods in improving pronunciation and
communicative English.
6. Do you enjoy your work?
So far, I love my job, it’s quite challenging to work with such huge classes and requires constant
attentiveness in order to be effective. However, I find it very meaningful as I have been able to
help many students expand their opportunity education wise and career wise.
7. What do you like about your job?
As I said before, I enjoy working with students and am able to help them. At the same time, the
working environment is quite young and supportive. My colleagues, especially my managers
always have my back whenever I have problems, so I appreciate it a lot.
8. What do you dislike about your job?
Well, dislike is a strong word, so I wouldn’t say that I dislike anything about it. But there is
something that I wish to change which is the class size. At the moment, my class includes around
30 students which is a bit difficult to manage. So, if there were only 20 students, it would be a lot
more manageable and effective for both the teachers and the students.
9. Do you miss being a student?
To be honest, yes. I miss the fact that I could be so carefree and not worry about money and bills.
I could hang out with my friends all day. Now, I barely see them anymore because of our hectic
schedules.
WEEKEND
1. What do people in your family usually do on weekends?
Compiled by: Hoang Anh Tuan
Weekends is the only time where all our family members have days off so we usually try to
spend at least a day together by outdoor activity. We all are fascinated by nature and always try
to have a trip to the countryside to immerse ourselves in it.
2. What will you do next weekend?
Well, other than having a trip to a nearby town with my family. I will be going to a live concert
with my girlfriend. I haven’t been able to listen to live music for so long because of Covid so I
am looking forward to this event.
3. Can you do anything special last weekend?
Unfortunately, I had Covid last week so I couldn’t even attend the trip with my family, or even
leaving my room. It was sad but I’m ready to be back outside now!
4. What do you usually do on weekends?
As I said earlier, I would either spend time with my family on a trip to the outskirt of Hanoi or
hanging out with my friends. Unless I’m very lazy, then I would spend time binging on Netflix.
Communication
Part 1
Compiled by: Hoang Anh Tuan
🡪When I first got my flip-phone back when I was 12 years old, I usually contact my
friends via traditional calls and messages. But since I started using smartphones, I changed
to social media sites for its convenience.
🡪Before, absolutely, nowadays not so much since my smartphone allows me with easy
access to the Internet from anywhere to make connections with my friends, so I think that
traditional phone calls are not really necessary for me recently.
🡪Ideally no since I am not a person behind a pen, I’m the kind of person that lean towards
verbal conversation rather than writing because I believe only spoken words can fully
deliver meaning of a conversation.
Part 2
🡪To be honest, I’m quite of an introverted person so going out talking or simply having a
casual conversation is always going to be a tall task for myself. I only engage in a
conversation with anyone that I feel safe around such as my family members or my close
friends. But there was one conversation that I had with a stranger that really left an imprint
inside my mind up to this very day, it was with an examiner at IDP 4 years ago.
I remember specifically that day when I was only a trainee IELTS teacher that had little
clue about teaching in general. One day I got an invitation to a seminar at IDP for a course
of IELTS insight hosted by a senior examiner, I was enthusiastic to come and listen with
intention of studying from many others. Oddly, I was the only ones who actually showed
up so basically, we just communicated with each other throughout the whole session.
His name is Ryan, and he has been a Speaking examiner for IDP for more than 5 years. I
could realize that he was quite sad that nobody others from me showed up, but still, he
spent time talking to me and instructed me about the functions and the criteria of IELTS
Speaking. For a trainee teacher like me, I couldn’t buy those types of experience anywhere,
so I paid very close attention on what he said. He was really dedicated and also helpful, he
showed me the method of “Simple but Efficient Speaking” that helped me a lot later on of
my teaching career.
It was indeed an exceptional experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything. And up to this
day, we still talk to each other and became close friends ever since.
Part 3
- What age group do you think has the best communication skills?
🡪In these days and ages, I do believe that young adults obtain the best communication
skills since it is a combination of both modern and inexperienced. Being modern means
being adaptable to new things, but also being inexperienced along the way would help the
youngsters to be willing to listen more.
- In your opinion, has technology improved the way we communicate with each
Compiled by: Hoang Anh Tuan
other?
🡪Absolutely! In the 4.0 era, technology has dominated in every sense of our daily life,
communication is no exception. To be honest, technology, social media in particular has
developed our ways of communicating into an easier, more efficient, and more affordable
way compare directly to traditional communication methods.
🡪I don’t believe so, on the contrary, I think technology even improved our methods of
communication into a more efficient way. It’s true technology has subsided verbal
communication, but the delivery of information is still the same, if not more fruitfully. If
there is one thing clear, it is the fact that we should be adapting to any forms of
communication.
🡪To be honest, it is not in the scenes anymore since hand-writing letters are now converted
to email and messages through the Internet. However, I still believe that there is a hidden
beauty in hand-writing letters since they can showcase the dedication as well as the
affection of the writer.
- Do you think it is still important for children to learn handwriting? Why? /Why
not?
🡪I strongly believe so, in fact, I think it should be compulsory. Indeed, we are living in a
multimedia era, but handwriting is still one of the compulsory skills that children need to
obtain growing up. Writing helps the children to develop such important social skills as
well as their practical skills in not only studying but also in life.
🡪I can’t really say to be exact since I believe that the future holds nothing but
opportunities that we can only imagine. But I strongly believe that communication will
come hand in hand with technology in both the near and far future, maybe in more
advanced ways and methods that only exist in Hollywood movies.

Photographs
Part 1
🡪Not too often honestly since I am not the type of person stands around the camera, I only
take photographs only when necessary or if anyone asks me to.
🡪I don’t take photographs regularly, but when I do, I’d love to take pictures of my friends
to capture moments of friendship, which can be cherished overtime.
🡪Once or twice, actually I only know about selfies from a song called #SELFIE by the
Chainsmokers. Aside from that, I think I rarely take a proper selfie before.
🡪I just simply save them to my phone for secured purposes, and also occasionally looking
back to cherish the moments in the past.
Part 2
• who took it
🡪To be honest, I’m not quite a photographic person so I do not always stand either in the
front or even behind the camera. But there is one photo that would always secure a place
Compiled by: Hoang Anh Tuan
I remember that it was a holiday photo when my entire family including my grandparents
decided to go on a trip instead of staying home celebrating the traditional Tet holiday. We
went to Da Lat to avoid the hustle and bustle of life after a long year of working and
studying. Da Lat was indeed our first choice in our mind since we all wanted to have a
picture in front of the famous Da Lat flower garden, and we did. It was a rare time when
my entire family all appeared in the same frame, even though we just took a picture with a
simple smartphone, nothing fancy. But for me, the picture itself holds a lot of memories
that I would cherish until the rest of my life. Growing in a family where each of us works
in different fields, it is so difficult for us to find spare time for all of us to spend together.
So, on that trip, we decided that we should have something to save and to look back to later
on in our life. That’s why that picture is so meaningful to me, we even printed it out and
framed it in the middle of our living room wall to remind ourselves about the importance of
family.
Part 3
🡪Significantly, with the application of technology to photography, photos and such are
becoming more and more splendid and breath-taking. I am not a photographer but there are
some scenery frames on the Internet that have really dazzled me to the core. The pixels as
well as the angles are utilized to absolute perfection.
🡪To me personally, a good photograph contains a soul and a backstory after it. I’m not the
one to feel the picture or a photo by its graphics or the artistic meaning behind it, I always
look at a photo and try to figure out the story after the frame. One of my favorite photos
ever is the one which I took with my whole family in it.
🡪In some content, I do believe so, taking a good picture nowadays is not really a too tall
Compiled by: Hoang Anh Tuan
task for anybody since technology really simplify it. Every photograph has a story behind
it, and there is a famous photographer who once said, “You can feel a person’s soul simply
by looking at his picture”.
- Do you agree that with the advances in camera technology, anyone - can take quality
pictures today?
🡪I can’t really think of a proper answer to this, but I strongly believe that the selfie trends
start from a song name #SELFIE by the Chainsmokers in 2013. The song with a very
catchy vibe about youngsters taking selfies really brought a new take on taking selfies. And
also, with the development of such filter’s development nowadays, taking selfies can be
both easy and beautiful.
- Do you think there are any dangers in sharing personal photos on social media?
🡪There are some risks, yes, since the Internet is being retained anonymous on numerous
sites and criminals can easily take advantages of that. So, sharing personal photos online
should be done with absolute care and awareness, skippy or personal photos shouldn’t be
published on social media platforms.
Part 1
How well do you know the people who live next door to you?
🡪Not too often since we are all caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and everybody is
bounded to their own business. If we meet each other’s, it would be just a casual chat or a
short greeting out of respect for each other.
🡪Others from family, I have a girlfriend. We have known each other for like 8 months and
our relationship remains quite strong and stable. I surely hope for a fruitful conclusion
which is marriage in a short time to come.
🡪To be honest, when we first moved to the neighborhood, I got quite a lot of problems
with the house next door since I always came home late from work. The neighbor got a
little bit nosy and made the assumption that I was involved in some weird business which
is quite irritating.
Part 2
• who it is
Back when I was a freshman at my university, I was urged to go out there and find a job to
Compiled by: Hoang Anh Tuan
gain more experience and stable my financial status. With a solid English background that
I obtained over the years, teaching English was the most suitable for me. I applied for my
first job at Res for the grammar teaching position and I met Chau who was an IELTS
teacher then. She was in charge of training me and showing me functions of the company.
She impressed me right off the bat to be a careful and detailed person, she obviously didn’t
miss anything in terms of training me. From academic materials to teaching skills, she
intensively guided me with utmost care and inspiration. Throughout the process, she
showcased her being a professional while maintaining kindness to newcomers like me,
which made me feel welcoming and not apart from the group.
After 2 weeks of training and working, she was the first one to notice my teaching skills
and recommended to the Leading Committee that I should be teaching IELTS instead of
Grammar, and that really changed my life and direction. Out of kindness, she realized my
potential and gave me a chance to improve myself.
Part 3
- What types of relationships, other than with friends or family, are important in
people’s lives?
🡪If I’ve got to say, relationships with co-workers. Since I have been jumping from jobs to
jobs, I came to realize the importance of maintaining a good relationship with your
colleagues. Getting along with the people who work with you on a daily basis can be
considered one of the most beautiful relationships that you are going to have.
🡪I cannot speak for everyone, but I believe that most of us takes marriage quite seriously.
Growing up in a traditional country, I was taught that marriage is considered one of the
Compiled by: Hoang Anh Tuan
most important milestones of our lives, so marriage is considered significant. And also,
finding a suitable partner would allow us to live a prosperous life later on.
🡪Quite significantly, I supposed. Since I read that in the past, Vietnamese marriages are
quite arrangeable by the two families. The suitability wasn’t decided by the spouses but the
family, so the children didn’t have a voice in the marriage status. But nowadays, freedom
in marriage and relationships is being considered the utmost important quality of all.
🡪I don’t think they do since the life nowadays allows and encourages them to be more
active and more independent. Most of the Gen-Z nowadays prioritize money earning and
enjoying their young life rather than seeking stability in marriage. Some of whom even
prefer to have kind of “fling” relationships rather than serious ones.
🡪I mean, I strongly believe that marriage requires both parties to be condescending but
there is no guarantee of happiness in the far future. So, if a couple is no longer happy and
cannot be bounded by responsibilities anymore, one should be able to go out and seek for
new happiness. As long as they stay faithful and responsible to their choices.
→ To be honest, no, since both of my parents are not quite interested in history. But they
did mention when I was younger about the necessities of history. They thought history was
not important but necessary since the subject can teach me about cherishing each day
passing by and appreciating our roots. And since most of Vietnamese history is about
Compiled by: Hoang Anh Tuan
fighting for peace and independence, it is safe to say that history plays a certain role in our
mindsets.
→ I strongly believe that museums play as living examples of a country’s history. A lot of
people come to the museum not only to experience and to study about the past, they also
come to inherit the spirit and the strength of time. For a country which has been through a
lot of wars like Vietnam, museums do bring a lot of those memories back to the present.
And as much as people said, we can relive those moments just by strolling through the
hallway of a museum.
→ Since I do not visit museums regularly, so I cannot say for sure, but there are a lot of
museums around the place where I live that are free of charge, especially the Warfare
museums which are funded by the government. But there are some Arts museums in city
centers that charge people who want to experience a small amount of money. So, I believe
→ Well, it really depends on each individual’s experience, but peace is the first word that
comes to my mind whenever I think of the countryside. In the middle of the hustle and
bustle of big cities where transports are noisy, people are in a hurry and the power of money
rules, the countryside is the peaceful and quiet place that people go to. Not only it serves as a
stress-free environment but also people can slow down the pace of life and enjoy the fresh
→ Most of the time, relax to be honest. As I mentioned before, people in my country are
caught up so badly in the hustle and bustle of city life. So, they tend to go to the countryside
seeking an escape from reality. And recently, there have been a lot of resort chains and
→ Ideally, most definitely yes! But under the pace of industrialization nowadays, it’s not likely to
be so. Some big cities are growing and expanding to the local areas surrounding, which leads to
the massive reduction of countryside areas. It is not difficult in Vietnam to go to some areas that
used to be considered “countryside” and see massive shopping centers or even skyscrapers.
● What are the common appliances that people use in the house recently?
→ In most houses in Vietnam, it is not difficult to find a box of repair kits lying around in
the storage or even beside the shoe cabinets. Since most Vietnamese men can be described as
handy and flexible when it comes to repairing stuff around the house. For instance, my
father never needed a plumber or an electrician to do his repairing work for him. All he’s
got to do is to go to the storage, pick up his screwdrivers and wrenches and do the deeds
himself.
→ On an aspect, definitely yes since technology has massively made our lives much easier.
Communication and connection have been simplified which means people will do much
less to achieve the sense of it. So indeed, it is safe to say that people are getting lazier, but
with a good restraint of relying on technological devices, such advancement can be utilized
→ Well, recently there have been a lot of accessories that allow people to further protect
their devices from outside factors or simply personal carelessness. One of the most common
objects is the smartphone protective cases and screens that prevent physical impacts from
outside. But I strongly believe that no accessories can alternate the very own carefulness of
the users.
● When an electrical item of yours does not work, what would you prefer? Buy a new
one or repair it?
→ Well, since I don’t have a lot of money, repairing it would be the best and the safest
option for me to consider. But most of the time when it comes to electrical devices or
accessories, I am quite careful with them so I have never broken any of my belongings
before, especially my smart phone. People always say that I’m a little too conservative for my
own goods, but if that prevents me from spending unnecessary money, I’m good with it!
→ Well, if I have got to say, I’m not the handiest person around the house even though I’ve been
independent from my parents since the 6th grade. Not because I could not repair it, I just do not
want to risk anything. Rather than blind figuring out on my own about what to do, I would spend
some of my money on professionals to ensure the quality and my own safety.
→ Through guidance of course, children are like blank paper sheets that need to be drawn on by
their parents. Not only organizing skills but all other essential skills in life need to be taught by
the parents themselves. But I strongly believe that with proper parental guidance about
organizing skills in the first place, children will slowly develop themselves into more and more
responsible with their tasks and lives.
→ I don’t think proper organizing needs a certain event or occasion, you only achieve the
best of your performance by preparing intensively and properly for it. Whichever the tasks
or the challenges are, or even easy obstacles that are within your reach, getting everything
organized will create the sense of safety and accomplishment, which will boost the
→ Aside from being adaptable and flexible, I personally believe that organizing skill is
considered one of the three most important skills in working. A worker who can organize, who
can prepare for tasks, challenges, deadlines or even obstacles is a worker worth keeping. And in
the age of technology where everything is about constant movements, being able to pre-organize
works will definitely be the standout quality that employers seek for.
→ Personally, I think they started to form their consciousness from a very young age,
comes into play. When they start to consciously voice their own opinion, by throwing a
they get older, their views are shaped based on their close-knit connection and the power of
media. The more they are exposed to certain content and people, the more they are open to
it.
→ I would not say strong, but pure opinions! There is a saying from one of my favorite authors -
Steven Christensen: “Children’s minds are the purest and greatest things on the planet”. While
the adults’ opinions and ideas are full of tactics and careful consideration, children would be
more free-will and innocent. So, it is safe to say that adults should seriously consider letting the
children get involved more in raising their voices.
Compiled by: Hoang Anh Tuan
● Should parents request children to obey them?
considered one of the most challenging tasks in the world, and guiding their children has
and is being the toughest obstacles to push through. I personally have experienced parents
forcing their children to obey each and every single command coming out from them,
which leads to nervous breakdown and anxiety in their minds. So I strongly believe that
→ Personally, it’s a vital tool in deciding whether parents and children will have a close-knit
relationship or a toxic one. With mutual understanding between both parties, a stronger
bond and connection will be formed, which would be especially helpful in some dreadful
situations. For example, there has been cases of young students who suffers depression and
commit suicide because of huge pressure from parents who don’t understand their needs and
wants. So what I mean is, communication is a key in preventing these distressing situations.
→ Personally, as a visual learner, I find photos easier to stick into my mind than words. A
detailed photo would be a perfect tool for myself to memorize and visualize the scenery as
well as the back-story behind it. One of the other reasons is that I am not an extensive
reader, so I would not consider reading a primary option. On the other hand, I have learnt
the trait of optimizing angles to produce quality pictures from my smartphone, so photos
