IELTS SPEAKING PART 1

Topic 1: HOMETOWN
Questions
1. Where are you from? Can you describe your hometown?
 Well, I was born and raised in Viet Tri, the capital city of Phu Tho, a
province in the North of Vietnam, which is about a two-hour drive
from Ha Noi.
 I gotta say that my hometown is a bustling place with many
entertainment services and  a few tourist attractions. It is most
well-known for the Hung King festival. Every year millions of
tourists come here  to attend this.
2. What is the weather like in your hometown?
 Well, I gotta say that, the weather in my hometown is pretty nice
with four distinct seasons. However,  it’s becoming more and more
unpredictable, maybe due to climate change. For instance, in
winter, you can see a clear difference between the weather at
specific times of the day. In the early morning, it can be extremely
cold, and during  the day, it can become sunny and maybe you can
feel hot.
3. Do you know much about the history of your hometown?
 Yes, of course. It’s regarded as the native land of our country with
the Hung King complex. So yk, on an annual basis, millions of
people come here to attend the festival and pray for a year of luck,
success and health.
4. What do you like about your hometown? / What is the most
attractive part of your hometown?
 To tell the truth, the thing I find the most enjoyable about my home
town is Van Lang Park, which is located in the very heart of the city.
Every day, tons of people choose to go there to enjoy a bit of the
greenery while doing some mild exercises here.
5. Is your hometown a good place to live and grow?
 Yes, definitely. I mean; besides all the spectacular cuisine and
tourist attractions, it also offers us modern facilities, a nice
environment and communication systems. We have got some nice
educational institutes, hospitals, community centers, better
security and open spaces for hanging out. Also, the people here are
incredibly nice and friendly. So, I think this is a suitable place
where people can live and grow well.
6. Are there any things you don’t like about your hometown?
 Well, there is one thing that I find quite annoying and worrying -
it’s waste treatment, which yk leads to problems like air and water
contamination.  There is literally no trash can on the street, and
people throw them anywhere that they can and it has such harmful
effects on the environment surrounding us.
7. Do you continue to live there for a long time?
 No, I don’t think so. In just a few years, I’ll leave high school and
move to Hanoi for my higher education. And I might live there then
cs when it comes to job opportunity, HN is the best choice for me.
But who knows, maybe I will change my future plan after
graduating from university to come back to my hometown and live
with my beloved mom and dad. 
8. Do you want to live in the countryside in the future?
 To be frankly honest, I’ve never thought about it before. I think
that now I am still young, so I want to live in a big city so that I can
have the best job opportunities and tons of entertaining activities
to choose from. But who knows, in the future, maybe when I am old
and grey, moving to the countryside can be a good option as I need
more peace, quiet and fresh air for myself.
Topic 2: ACCOMODATION
Questions
1. Do you live in a house or a flat? Who do you live with?
 Currently, I’m residing in a semi-detached house in the very heart
of the city, which I've just moved to 5 years ago with my parents .
All amenities are available in the proximity of my home so it’s
pretty convenient for me. I can easily grab anything I need in just a
few minutes.
2. What is it like where you live? Can you describe the place you live
in?
 Currently, I’m residing in a semi-detached house in the very heart
of the city, which I've just moved to 5 years ago with my parents.
Well, I gotta say that it’s not a big house but the interior design is
designed in our own way and convenient, it is just perfect for our
family to live and stay in.
3. Can you describe the room you live in?
 Yes, of course. So talk about my room, it’s rather small and well-
furnished with all fundamental facilities like an A-C, a bed, a desk
and a wardrobe. Yk, I really love it as it’s the place where I can do
whatever I want without getting disturbed and irritated by
others and decorate it according to my own taste.
4. What do you like most about your house? / Which part of the house
do you like most? / Which room is your favorite?
 Well, for me, the most attractive thing in my house is definitely my
room. Even though it’s pretty small, it’s well-furnished with all
fundamental facilities such as an A-C, a bed, a desk and a wardrobe.
It’s the place where I can do whatever I want without getting
disturbed and irritated by others and decorate it according to my
own taste. So, I gotta say that, I love it so much.
5. What do you dislike about your house? / What do you like to
change about your home?
 Well, perhaps I want to replace the kitchen facilities, which are
pretty old after a few years of being used, with all modern
equipment in order to reduce the chance of having accidents by
them and maybe enjoy better meals. 
6. Do you like to move to a different home in the future?
 Well, in the future, if I am well off, I will definitely move to a more
spacious house with an extra garden to enjoy a bit of the greenery.
And I’ll add more spaces for relaxation like a reading room and a
movie room with a huge screen so that it can be a more suitable
place for us to really enjoy ourselves after a long working day.
Topic 3: STUDIES
Questions
1. Are you a student or do you work now?
 Currently, I’m a student at a local high school in my hometown. In
case that you may not know, it’s one of the top schools in my
province. I mean, admission to my school is highly competitive so
I’m so proud to be a student here.
2. What would you like to do in the future?
 If you ask me, I’m planning to take a course in the field of
marketing. As you can see, these days, marketing is megatrend so
majoring in this subject can offer me a lot of job opportuinities.
3. What are your favorite subject at school?
 I gotta admit that french is my cup of tea, which is currently my
major subject at high school cuz I love fashion. I mean, as you
know, France is home to many famous fashion brand and big
events like Paris Fashion Week. Therefore, it helps me a lot in
finding more information about clothing and maybe it will open
the opportunities for me to study and work in this field.
4. What are the most popular subject in VietNam?
 Wow, it’s such a broad question. But I guess Maths, Literature,
English are the three main core subjects in my country. Yk, they are
all compulsory subjects in the national curriculum for students
from primary to secondary level.
5. What do you like about your studies?
 Well, the thing I find the most enjoyable about my studies is my
classmates cuz they are incredibly friendly and helpful, they are
always willing to lend me a hand whenever I struggle with
something. Yk, having them beside makes the studying process less
stressful and much more memorable.
6. What do you dislike about your study?
 For most part, I would say it’s the workload that I have to handle
on a daily basis. Yk, every day, there are tons of deadlines and
assignments from teachers, and several exams keep coming up,
which gives me a lot of pressure. I’m still trying to adapt and
arrange them appropriately.
7. Would you say you’re a good students?
 I would say yes, I’m pretty good at meeting deadlines and I’m
keeping up with my studies. What I’m trying to say is that I submit
my assignments to my teachers on time and really commit myself
fullly to the teachers.
Topic 4: FAMILY/FRIENDS
Questions
1. Do you have a large family or small family ?
 I come from a small family and currently I’m living with my mom
and dad. We get on very well with each other and on special
occasions, we gonna throw big parties which is always a lot of fun. I
gotta say that, we do live in harmony
2. What are your parents like? Which member of your family are you
most similar to ?
 Well, they are always caring, patient and have a good sense of
humor. Whenever I need there help mb when being under
pressure, they are willing to lend me a hand. To me, they are the
most wonderful people in the world.
 Well, most people say that my appearance is the same as dad but
my personality is inherited from mom. And my mother’s
characteristic is also inherited from my grandmother. I guess it’s a
tradition that runs in our family.
3. How much time do you spend with your family? What sorts of thing
do you like to do together?
 Sad to say, I just spend little time with my family cus I’ve got to go
to school at most time of the day and there is literally no time to
talk with them except for the three meals. But that is what makes
that time more precious to us.
 For me, simply just spending time with them is regarding. We can
just do daily chores together when updating ourselves on our day.
Or even cook meals in the kitchen while listening to some music
that we both love. We all enjoy that moment so much.
4. In what way is your family important to you?
 Well, family is everything for me. They are the most realiable and
caring people I have ever met. They try anything to ensure that I’m
fine and sacrifices for my life. They know me better than anyone,
they will always stay on my side, encourage me no matter what
happens.
5. Are your friends mostly your age or different age ?
 As I am still student, my friends are mostly at the same age as mine.
Besides of them, I also meet with people of different ages when
joining in the school club or activities.
6. What kind of people do you make friends with ?
 Well, of course, I tend to make friends who share the same interest
or have the same personality as mine. As I am kinda optimistic
kind of person and I don’t want to absorb any bad enery, so I have
the intention to be friends with people who are good listeners and
positive, not pessimistic.
7. What do you and your friends do together?
 Most of my friends right now are at the same class as mine so we
meets each other mostly everyday. We study, play games or even
do sth ridiculous together and that what makes going to school
becomes increasingly exiciting.
8. In what way are your friends improtant to you?
 Well, I guess, friendship is part and parcel of many people’s lives,
right and that is absolutely true for me. Friends can bring about
optimism to us and always be with us through ups and downs. We
can be just ourselves when being around them as they make us feel
comfortable and happy. They are also a shoulder for me to cry on
whenever I need help.
Topic 5: BOOKS/MOVIES
Questions
1. Do you like reading?
 Definitely, I have to say that I love reading. I do believe that reading
books is the best way to relax and gain more knowledge. One of the
most interesting books to me is an autobiography called “When
breath becomes air” which was written by a doctor telling his own
story of fighting with cancer.
2. Do you like to read at home or in other places ?
 Acutually, I don’t have enough time to go to other places to read cus
you know, I have to study at school all day long so it is more
convenient and comfortable to read at home, especially in my
bedroom.
3. In what place do you think it is disicult to read?
 For me, reading at noisy palces like restaurants and cafes is quite
annoying as I find it hard to really focus on what is the book about
and may be I’ll lose track of what I’m reading.
4. Do you like reading by yourself or with other people?
 Definitely, I enjoy reading books on my own and in silence cus
when I do that with others I find it easier to lose focus and I’ll be
distracted in the middle of my reading.
5. Do you like watching movies? What genre do you like?
 Of coures, I watch movies every weekends with my parents and I’ve
gotta say that documentary delights me the most. When I watch
these, I feel that I can more deeply understand human emotions
and actually see what had happened at that point of time, like the
story about Bill Gates or how social media works .
6. How often do you go to a cinema to watch a movie?
 I would say once a month, watching films especially at the cinema
is one of my favourite pastimes especially with my family. You
know, by watching at cinema, we can have a more authentic feeling
through a huge screen and enjoy ourselves better after a month of
studying and working.
7. Do you like to watch movies alone or with your friends?
 I would say that I’d rather watch films with my friends. We can
always have a good time together, and later discuss about our own
understanding of the movies or whether we like or not.
Topic 6: SINGING/MUSIC
Questions
1. Do you like singing?
 Definitely, I love singing but sad to say, I don’t have a good singing
voice. I think I’m tone-deaf, so I only sing when I’m alone in my
room or while taking a shower.
2. When do you sing ?
 Like I said before, I’m not really confident about my singing so I
only sing in public while there are special occasions like birthdays,
celebrations, meetings or when I was forced to.
3. Did you enjoy singing when you were younger?
 Of course, I believe that I did enjoy it. I even have videos of me and
my sister dancing and singing together. It was all good memories
for me and sometimes just watching it makes my day.
4. Will you take singing lessons in the future?
 Actually, I don’t think so. For me, there’s no point in taking voice
lessons cus I don’t want to take it seriously and it won’t help me in
my study and my persued career.
5. Do you like music?
 Of course yes, I’m a big fan of music, music is a part of my life and I
cannot imagine my life without music. Listening to music is an
excellent way to unwind after a long working day.
6. What is your favorite music?
 I would say it depends, I’m not completely into any type of music. I
listen to the music that fit my mood. If I’m happy, I will listen to
upbeat songs like pop, hiphop. And if I’m sad, I will just listen on
repeat to jazz, ballads..
7. Have you ever been to a concert before?
 I would say that I’d rather watch films with my friends. We can
always have a good time together, and later discuss about our own
understanding of the movies or whether we like or not.
