In many countries, people like to eat a wider variety of food than can be

grown in their local area. As a result, much of the food people eat today has to
come from other regions. Do you think the advantages of this development
outweigh disadvantages?
These days, it is quite common for people to eat foods that are not, or
cannot, be grown or produced where they live. As a consequence, large quantities
of food are either transported long distances within a country or imported from
other countries. This essay will review some of the advantages and disadvantages
of this trend.
Thanks to globalisation, the increase in efficient transportation between and
within countries, and a growing trend in food culture, people can now enjoy a
vast array of foods like never before. This trend has many advantages. Firstly,
having access to a wide variety of foods from different regions can provide
people with a highly nutritious diet that can help to promote health and
prevent disease. For example, some kinds of nutrient-rich berries that can only
be grown in Asia can now be enjoyed by people all over the world. Furthermore,
with such a growing interest in exotic foods and food culture, people can
experience a range of cuisine without leaving their own town or city.
However, this trend also comes with a number of disadvantages. For
example, some communities around the world where exotic and rare foods are
grown are losing their own access to their food sources. When demand for a
certain food increases, the price also increases, and people in poorer countries
where the food is grown can sometimes not afford to buy it
anymore.  Another problem with this trend is that the constant transportation
of foods over long distances contributes to climate change due to the large
amount of carbon emissions produced by transportation.  And lastly, many
foods that are transported long distances need to be treated with chemicals
and preservatives which make them less healthy to consume.
In conclusion, although there are many benefits to having access to a wide
variety of foods, personally, I believe that the disadvantages of this trend outweigh
the advantages.

Today food travels from thousands of miles from the farm to the consumer.
Some people say that it would be better for the economy & environment if
people ate food produced from local farmers. Would the advantages of this
idea outweigh the disadvantages? (tự viết)
Nowadays, in many countries, more and more people choose to buy imported
food rather than local food. What are the causes? What can be done to
encourage people to buy local food? (tự viết)
People think that countries should produce foods their population eats and
import less food as much as possible. To what extent do you agree or
disagree?
There are some who believe that countries should be self-sufficient in terms
of their food production. This essay disagrees with such a suggestion, due to the
potential benefits that food trade brings to all parties involved. These benefits,
including effective allocation of resources, improved political atmosphere, and
cultural appreciation, will be analysed below.
Food trade maximizes the effective allocation of resources, as it
encourages specialization of production. Due to different resource endowments,
each country is effective at producing different food items. If they can import,
nations can focus on producing their most efficient good, then trade excess items
with other countries. Otherwise, nations would need to reallocate resources to
produce what they are not efficient at, driving up the costs of production and
causing their citizens to suffer from inflated food prices. An example of this
situation is the Common Agricultural Policy used by the European Union,
which subsidizes European farmers’ food production. If they EU had imported
food from more efficient foreign farmers, the subsidy money could be used
elsewhere or saved, while food prices are still manageable.
In addition, foreign trade creates interdependence between parties involved.
As national leaders must take into consideration the impact of political decisions
on food trade and commerce, they are less likely to turn to hostile acts that might
provoke animosity and lead to war. Thus, this improves the global political
atmosphere. Moreover, speaking from consumers’ perspective, food trade brings
about more diversity and appreciation for other cultures in terms of their cuisine.
An example of this is the popularity of sushi and other Japanese rolls in Western
countries, giving rise to the Californian roll – a unique food combination that
symbolizes the unique, global world we live in today.
To reiterate, countries should not attempt to produce all food for their entire
population, as trade plays an important role in promoting effective resources
allocation, global peace, and cultural appreciation.

People are having more and more sugar-based drinks. What are the reasons?
What are the solutions to make people drink less?
The consumption of sugary drinks has significantly increased in recent
years. The highly addictive ingredients in these beverages are the major reason
for this, and several measures can be implemented to reduce sugar-sweetened
beverage intake.
In terms of the principal reason behind the rise in sugar-based drink
consumption, sugar and caffeine – the two most addictive properties found in
most sugary beverages – are the main culprits. These substances give people an
instant energy boost to help them focus more effectively on their work, but they
also cause a drop in energy quickly after consumption so that they have to drink
another one to get an extra boost. In addition, sugar is so addictive that many
people find it impossible to quit consuming soft drinks or other sugar-based
beverages. Those who stop drinking beverages with added sugar or other
sweeteners for a short period of time might experience some common
withdrawal symptoms, such as headaches, tiredness or poor concentration.
A number of approaches can be taken to reduce the consumption of sugary
drinks. A tax on such products might be an effective solution as people might think
twice before buying a coke or a soda, for example. Another measure would be to
limit advertisements promoting sugar-sweetened drinks that are directly
targeted at children and young people. Instead, there should be more programmes,
billboards and posters that educate on healthy eating and the health risks
associated with the excessive consumption of sugar-based beverages.
In conclusion, the addiction caused by some properties in sugary drinks is
the primary reason why more and more people are consuming such products.
Despite this, there are various actions that can be taken
to discourage people from drinking sugary beverages.
In most countries, fast food is becoming cheaper and more available. Do you
think the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages.
It is increasingly common for families to rely on products from the fast-
food industry to take care of their meals on a regular basis due to its lower cost
and availability. This essay will explain why I believe its drawbacks outweigh
the benefits of such unhealthy foods.
One of the most significant advantages of fast food is that it offers a
complete meal at an affordable price. For example, a combo meal from some
of today’s industry leaders costs only under five dollars, while it would
have cost consumers half their month’s salary if they purchase organic and
healthy food at supermarkets. Furthermore, the fast-food industry is
extremely convenient. When people are exhausted after a long day at work, the
last thing on their mind is spending hours preparing dinner for everyone,
whereas they will have fast food ready to serve in five minutes or less at fast
food establishments.
However, fast food consumption does present many drawbacks, the most
obvious of which is that it can harm our health. The reason for this is that fast
food contains a lot of oil, hazardous food coloring agents, and unhealthy
trans fats. As a result, regular junk food intake leads to long-term health
problems such as obesity, emotional and self-esteem issues, and chronic
illnesses in later life. Another danger of fast and processed food is it can create
adverse effects on society. The growth of fast food availability in the country
seems to coincide with the growth of obesity, which puts a strain on/ places a
huge burden on the healthcare system.
In conclusion, the main benefits of affordability and convenience that fast
food has offered are outweighed by its dangers of severe health problems and
effects on the healthcare system.
