NAIL FILE – Used for shaping the free edge of the nails.
PUSHER – Used to push back or loosen dead cuticles.
EMERY BOARD – Used for natural nail care.
NAIL CLIPPER / CUTTER – Metal device, used to cut or shorten fingernails.
CUTICLE NIPPER – Metal device, used to trim hangnails and dead cuticles.
BUFFER – Has two different grits on one side (black and white) and a smooth (gray
material on the other side).
- The smooth is used to give a glossy shine to nails when polished.
- The coarse side is used to smooth irregular nail ridges.

NAIL BRUSH – Used to cleanse the hands/nails of debris.

ORANGEWOOD STICK – A wooden manicure stick, has variety of uses; cleaning
underneath the nails, removing polish from around the cuticle and nails.

MATERIALS USED IN MANICURING

BASE COAT – Applied directly to the nails to protect the nails against stains from
pigments of colored polish.
COLOR ENAMEL – Applied twice over the base coat, give strength and color to the
nail plate.
TOP COAT – Applied last over the color enamels, keep the nails from
peeling/clipping.
RIDGE FILLERS – Used to even out ridges or bumps on the nail.
QUICK DRY – Sprayed or brushed over the top coat, quickens drying process.
CUTICLE REMOVER – Used to soften dead cuticle.
NAIL POLISH REMOVER – used to remove old nail polish.
CUTICLE OIL- Lubricates the skin around the nail.
NAIL POLISH SOLVENT – Used to thin out the liquid nail polish.
MASSAGE CREAM – Used to prevent friction burns (during massage), softens and
moisturize the skin.
COTTON – Used to remove old nail polish from the nail plate.
SOAP – Used for finger bath.
HAND TOWELS – Used to dry the hands and nails.
NAIL WHITENER – Applied under the free edge.
NAIL BLEACH – Used to remove nail stains.
TABLE MATS AND TOWELS – Used to cover the area in order to prevent damage
to your table top spills or leaks.

NAIL BODY/PLATE – The visible portion of the nail, attached to the nail bed.
NAIL ROOT – Found at the base of the nail underneath the skin, grows from the
matrix.
FREE EDGE – The tip of the nail, hang freely over the fingertip.
NAIL BED – This is where the nail body rests
MATRIX – Part of the nail bed, contains the nerves and blood vessels.
LUNULA – The half moon found at the base of the nail.
CUTICLE – The overlapping skin around the nail.
NAIL WALLS – Folds of the skin overlapping the sides of the nail.
NAIL GROOVES – The slits on the sides of the naik which moves as it grows.
MANTLE – Where the nail root is embedded.
EPONYCHIUM – Extension of the cuticle which partly covers the lunula.
HYPONYCHIUM – Part of the skin found under the free edge.
PERIONYCHIUM – Part of the cuticle surrounding the entire nail border.
BASIC NAIL DESIGNS
American Wire Gauge (AWG) – Standardized wire gauge.
Resistance – The amount of electrical opposition to the flow of current.
Capacitance – The property of a device to collect a charge of electricity between
two conducting electrodes.
Inductance – The property of an electrical circuit to produce

TOOLS USED IN ELECTRONICS

Long Nose Pliers – These tools are used primarily to hold small electronic
components.
Side Cutter – Also known as wire nipper used to cut small size wires.
Electrician Pliers – Are heavy duty pliers used primarily in splicing wires ranging
from AWG #16 and larger.
Wire Stripper – A utility tool used to remove wire insulation without leaving dents
and scratches on the surface of the wire.
Soldering Iron/Gun – This is used to solder electronic components and wire in
electronics circuitry.
Soldering Tool Stand – This utility is used to hold the soldering iron in place to
avoid unnecessary burns on the components, tools, or even to the technician.
Desoldering Tool – This tool is used to remove components on printed circuit
boards.
Lead Dispenser – This utility tool dispenses lead during soldering works, helps the
technician control the amount of lead needed for a particular work.
Screwdrivers – Used to tighten and loosen screws. There are typically two types of
screwdrivers, the flat and phillips screwdrivers.
Mini Screwdrivers – These screwdrivers are smaller version of the regular
screwdrivers.
Tweezers – Are utility tools used to pick up and hold in place small electronic
components and screws.
Mini Drill – Hand or electric driven drill used to bore holes on printed circuit
boards.
Paper Cutter – This is used to cut PCB designs and to remove small wire
insulation.

VOLTAGE – Electromotive force

OHMETER – Resistance Ω - ohms, omega.

AMMETER – Measures current
VOLT METER – Measures EMF/Voltage
VOM – Measures resistant, volt, & current
VOLT – OHM – MILLIAMMETER = VOM, DIGITAL/ANALOG
RESISTORS - Component
COMMON MEASURING TOOLS IN ELECTRONICS

AMMETER – A type of meter that measures electric current in terms of ampere.

VOLTMETER – An electric meter that measures electromotive force (EMF) in
terms of voltage.
VOM – An instrument that measures three different electrical entities (voltage,
resistance, and current) enclosed in a single casing.
ANALOG VOM – Analog meter is read through approximation using scale and
ranges
DIGITAL VOM – Digital meter gives exact values on its readout display.
OHMETER – Used to measure resistance directly on meter. Used ONLY when unit
is disconnected from its original circuit.
