WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO PUT EFFECTIVE MEASURES IN PLACE
TO PROVIDE A CONDUCIVE LIVING ENVIRONMENT FOR
LIVESTOCK Livestock are very fragile animals that require a conducive environment with the right amount of shade, suitable temperature ranges and shelter to be a maximum benefit to the farmer. The most important reason for creating a suitable and conducive environment for livestock is to prevent the fall of production. E.g. dairy cows turn to produce small amount of milk when they are reared in unconducive environment, layer hens also lay fewer eggs less frequently when they are in environments that are not conducive for them. Raising livestock in a conducive environment also leads to the production of strong and healthy livestock. Livestock raised in environments where certain features like the level of noise, temperature or level humidity is not conducive will often lead to the growth of weaker livestock with less developed immunity to illnesses and diseases. They will therefore easily contract diseases which will lead to their death and lower production. A conducive environment also makes livestock docile and easy to control. This is because the animals feel comfortable and relaxed in a conducive environment and hence they are easier to handle. However when they are raised in unconducive environment, they become easily agitated, restless and violent posing a risk to the farmer and other livestock. Conducive environments generally have fewer pests and parasites that will affect the livestock. This results in reduction of illness and disease in the livestock promoting the production of strong and healthy livestock.
