“RECENT PLANS & ADVANCEMENTS REGARDING AGRICULTURE”

I searched different articles and websites for recent plans and advancements regarding agriculture,
and I found and noticed that all of those sites have one thing in common in terms of the way agriculture
works nowadays. Though I am not that interested and a fan of farming or agriculture, I felt a little bit
shocked when I read that AI (Artificial Intelligence) will also probably dominate the agricultural method
even though it is for the sake of its development. Based on one of the articles I read, “The AI in agriculture
market is expected to grow from USD 1.7 billion in 2023 to USD 4.7 billion by 2028, according to
MarketsandMarkets.”

The article also wrote that “Traditional farming involves various manual processes which are quite
hard and time-consuming. By Implementing those AI models, we can have many advantages compared to
the manual process.” The following advancements and future innovations or machines of the modern
digital technology of AI give me a kind feeling that anything in agriculture is not a problem anymore. The
article also includes the different samples of applications of Artificial Intelligence in agriculture and that
inventions are mind-blowing and outside of the box level of thinking. These plans and inventions are more
practical than the traditional, for example; Optimizing an Automated irrigation system that can monitor
soil moisture levels and weather conditions, and algorithms that can decide in real-time how much water
to provide to crops; The AI Drones that can determine the amount of pesticide to be sprayed on each area.
The AI invention that can detect diseases and pests on the plants! (imagine how the impact of this kind of
invention helps our farmers). But even though it has a huge contribution to the future of agriculture, it is
still a plan. It is still a fantasy to our Filipino farmers here in our country (Philippines) because it requires
quality leaders, educators, and digital technologies that need big data, sensors, and software that can cost
a huge amount of billions of money to be implemented.

Furthermore, reading those articles changed my perspective on how I view ‘AI’ as a threat to our
traditional farmers, instead, those plans and advancements can make the work much easier than before.
So that means Agriculture is for lazy people nowadays, and that’s why we need the help of Artificial
Intelligence? NO! We are in the modern era and our progress should not be to preserve our traditional
way of thinking about agriculture anymore. We need to adapt, We need to improve, We need to research,
We need to innovate, and We need to invent something new for the sake of agricultural development
including the success of the nation. As a student and a Leader in my own life, I can also help through the
use of education and continuous learning and become updated on what’s happening around the world.
