Post-Laboratory Questions

1. What test/s can be used to differentiate the following peptides: HIMALA and MIRACLE? Justify your
answer.
The tests that can be done to differentiate the following peptides, which are HIMALA and MIRACLE,
are ninhydrin test, biuret test, and Hopkins-Cole test because, based on the experiment, they reacted
to the same color instance that is similar to the test. By using these tests, you can differentiate
between the two peptides based on the resulting color to know whether the result is positive or
negative.

2. What can be inferred from a sample that yielded the following results after conducting the different
qualitative tests? Justify your answer.
Test Result Test Result
Ninhydrin Positive Fohl’s Negative
Biuret Negative Xanthoproteic Positive
Millon’s Negative Hopkins-Cole Positive
Sakaguchi Positive Pauly Positive

The qualitative test is used to identify the presence of proteins and amino acids in the sample. The
following test that yielded a positive result indicates the presence of amino acids in the test tubes,
while the absence of amino acids in the test tubes represents a negative result and indicates the lack
of amino acids in the sample. This includes other tests that contain proteins, wherein the negative test
results in an absence of proteins. This test is also used to distinguish between samples that contain
different amino acids.

3. Some proteins, such as egg whites and milk, can act as antidotes or first aid treatment to heavy metal
poisoning. Explain why.
Some proteins can help the body remove heavy metal toxins by enabling their excretion through
urine and bile. Proteins found in milk and egg whites have the ability to bind heavy metal ions,
protecting other organs and tissues from the harmful effect of heavy metals.

Conclusion

In conclusion, substances that have proteins, such as egg whites and milk, have the ability to regulate
how the immune system reacts to exposure to heavy metal toxins, which may lessen tissue damages
and inflammation brought on by poisoning.
