IRON : H 189 65 - 175 ug/dl

UIBC (UNSAT.IRON BINDING CAPAC) : 197 69 - 240 ug/dl

TIBC(Total Iron Binding Capacity) : 386 250 - 450 ug/dl

Percent (%) Transferrin Saturation : H 48.96 16 - 45 %

Method : Spectrophotometry

Usage:
--------
Serum Iron,TIBC & Percent transferrin saturation are widely used for the diagnosis of Iron defficiency.
This assay is useful for screening Chronic iron overload diseases particularly haemochromatosis.
Percent Transferrin saturation is usually normal or increased in Iron defficiency, pregnancy & intake of
oral contraceptives.
Low TIBC is seen in Chronic inflammatory conditions,Haemachromatosis & Malignancies. Serum ferritin is
a more sensitive & reliable indicator of Iron defficiency.
TIBC is a direct measure of the protein Transferrin which transports iron from the gut to storage sites
in the bone marrow.
NOTE:
------
TRANSFERRIN % SATURATION IS EXPRESSED AS % RATIO OF IRON & TIBC.
