HEMOPHILIA

WHAT IS HEMOPHILIA?
- Haemophilia, or hemophilia is a mostly
inherited genetic disorder that impairs
the body's ability to make blood clots, a
process needed to stop bleeding.This
results in people bleeding for a longer
time after an injury, easy bruising, and
an increased risk of bleeding inside
joints or the brain.
WHO DISCOVER HEMOPHILIA

-1803 – Dr. John Conrad Otto recognized a

bleeding condition was hereditary and affected
males. He traced it back to a woman who settled
near Plymouth, New Hampshire in 1720. 1828 –
The word “Hemophilia” is first used to describe a
bleeding disorder condition at the University of
Zurich.
TYPES:
Hemophilia A
- a hereditary hemorrhagic disorder resulting from a
congenital deficit of factor VIII that manifests as
protracted and excessive bleeding either spontaneously
or secondary to trauma.
Hemophilia B
- a rare genetic bleeding disorder in which affected
individuals have insufficient levels of a blood protein
called factor IX.
WHAT IS HEMOPHILIA CAUSE BY ?
-Hemophilia is caused by a mutation or change, in one of
the genes, that provides instructions for making the
clotting factor proteins needed to form a blood clot. This
change or mutation can prevent the clotting protein from
working properly or to be missing altogether. These genes
are located on the X chromosome. Males have one X and one
Y chromosome (XY) and females have two X chromosomes
(XX). Males inherit the X chromosome from their mothers
and the Y chromosome from their fathers. Females inherit
one X chromosome from each parent.
WHAT IS THE EFFECT?
-Hemophilia can result in: Bleeding within joints
that can lead to chronic joint disease and pain.
Bleeding in the head and sometimes in the brain
which can cause long term problems, such as
seizures and paralysis. Death can occur if the
bleeding cannot be stopped or if it occurs in a
vital organ such as the brain.
WHAT PART OF THE BODY DOES
HEMOPHILIA?

- it affects the knees

,ankles ,joints ,muscles
,nose and mouth and organs
SYMPTOMS
-Unexplained and excessive bleeding from cuts or
injuries, or after surgery or dental work.
-Many large or deep bruises.
Unusual bleeding after vaccinations.
Pain, swelling or tightness in your joints.
Blood in your urine or stool.
Nosebleeds without a known cause.
In infants, unexplained irritability.
THE FIRST AID TREATMENT FOR HEMOPHILIA?

-Rinse the cut or wound with water and

apply pressure with sterile gauze, a
bandage, or a clean cloth. If the bleeding
does not stop after 20 minutes, call your
doctor. Follow your doctor's instructions
for: giving factor replacement therapy
(which gives the body the clotting factor it
needs)
