Benefits of eating your greens!

By Ruby Sharif

Introduction

Has your mum ever secretly put vegetables into your food? It is very common for
children to be fussy about eating their vegetables. Whether it’s the taste or the color,
there is no secret that veges are not the preferred option. But, did you know that
vegetables are the most important food intake. They contain high vitamins, minerals
and fibres. This article will look at some of the benefits of why you should eat your
greens.

Salad greens contain Vitamin A, Vitamin C, beta-carotene, calcium, folate, fibre, and
phytonutrients. Leafy vegetables are a good choice for a healthful diet because they
do not contain cholesterol and are naturally low in calories and sodium. Overall
eating greens will prevent obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and mental
illness.

How much greens should you eat in a day?

Research has shown that eating 3–4 portions per day will greatly benefit you. You
can eat your veggies in a variety of forms — including store-bought, frozen, canned,
or juiced — though freshly picked, ripe vegetables are still the best option.
It is important for weight control and essential for weight loss to think about your
portion size. We tend to ignore our bodies signals of hunger and satiety until we
have eaten too much and are overfull.

Support your immune system

One of the most promising benefits of greens may be their ability to support your
immune system. Greens such as moringa leaf can support a healthy response to
oxidative damage. Oxidation is a normal and necessary process that takes place in
your body.

Oxidative stress, on the other hand, occurs when there is an imbalance between free
radical activity and antioxidant activity. When functioning properly, free radicals can
help fight off pathogens. Pathogens lead to infections. A way to help your immune
system is-
1. Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables.
2. Exercise regularly.
3. Maintain a healthy weight.
4. Get adequate sleep.
5. Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently.
What happens if you eat your greens every day?
Your stomach is so preoccupied trying to process all those plants, it does not have
any capacity to absorb the other nutrients you are eating. Hence: shortage. Too
many vegetables could make your other food less healthy.
Eating vegetables every day is important for health. They provide essential vitamins,
minerals, and other nutrients, such as antioxidants and fibers. Research consistently
shows that people who eat the most vegetables have the lowest risk of many
diseases, including cancer and heart disease. Antioxidant is a substance that
protects cells from the damage caused by free radicals (unstable molecules made by
the process of oxidation during normal metabolism). Free radicals may play a part in
cancer, heart disease, stroke, and other diseases of aging.

What are the healthiest greens?

Kale is considered one of the most nutrient-dense vegetables on the planet due to its
many vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Microgreens are immature greens
produced from the seeds of vegetables and herbs. Collard greens are loose leaf
greens, related to kale and spring greens. They have thick leaves that taste slightly
bitter. Spinach is a popular leafy green vegetable and is easily incorporated into a
variety of dishes, including soups, sauces, smoothies, and salads. Cabbage is
formed of clusters of thick leaves that come in green, white and purple colors.
