The 17th Region in the Philippines

1.) Ilocos Region (Region I)

Artist: JUAN LUNA

Juan Luna is one of the most well-known artists from the Ilocos Region. Luna is regarded by
many as the best painter in the Philippines and a significant figure in the history of Philippine
art. He was born in 1857 in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, and later studied painting in Europe. Luna's
paintings are renowned for their exquisite use of oil paint, dramatic lighting, and historical
themes.

2.)Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)

Artist: BENEDICTO CABRERA

BenCab, also known as National Artist Benedicto Cabrera, is the most well-known artist from
the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). He creates prints, paints, sculptures, and designs.
His paintings are renowned for their vivid hues and accurate depictions of Philippine culture
and daily life.

3.)Cagayan Valley Region (Region ll)

Artist: ROMULO DORUELO

Romulo Doruelo is one well-known artist from the Cagayan Valley region. Doruelo is well-
known for using wood mosaic to produce works of art that capture the culture, rural lifestyle,
and scenic beauty of his native Isabela. He views the region's industrious farmers and fishermen
as unsung heroes, and they are frequently included in his works.

4.)Central Luzon (Region III)

Artist: FERNANDO "Andy" BONDOC

Fernando is a renowned copper bonsai artist from Pampanga. He's known for creating
incredibly detailed miniature trees using copper.His works are not only beautiful but are also
testaments to his patience and skill. Bondoc's copper bonsais have been exhibited in the
Philippines and internationally.
5.)National Capital Region (NCR)

Artist: BERNARDO CABRERA

Although the National Capital Region (NCR) is home to many gifted artists, Benedicto Cabrera is
one of the most well-known. Born in 1942 in Manila, Caberera is a visual artist renowned for his
abstract expressionist paintings that explore social and political topics. He attended the
University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. Being one of the most significant Filipino
artists of his time, his paintings have been shown both domestically and abroad.

6.)Calabarzon (Region IV-A)

Artist: CARLOS V. FRANCISCO

Carlos "Botong" V. Francisco is a well-known artist from Calabarzon (Region IV-A). Francisco is a
National Artist of the Philippines in the Visual Arts (Painting) category. He was well-known for
his genre paintings that portrayed Philippine daily life and historical events. Vibrant colors,
expressive brushstrokes, and meticulous attention to detail define his paintings.

7.)MIMAROPA (Region IV-B)

Artist: GABRIEL FABELLA

Gabriel Fabella, a well-known artist from MIMAROPA (Region IV-B), is based in Romblon. He is
well-known for his woodcarvings and marble sculptures. Religious themes and events from
Philippine mythology are frequently portrayed in his works.

8.)Bicol Region (Region V)

Artist: PANFILO MAGSAYSAY LAYUG

The Bicol Region is home to several well-known artists, including Pancho (Panfilo Magsaysay
Layug). He is a well-known visual artist whose vivid and colorful paintings frequently depict the
way of life of the Bicolanos.

Pancho has shown his artwork both domestically and abroad. He is regarded as the Bicol
Region's global ambassador.

9.)Western Visayas (Region VI)

Artist: PIERRE PATRICIO


Pierre Patricio is one well-known artist from Western Visayas (Region VI). He is a modern
illustrator, sculptor, and painter who has had numerous exhibitions both domestically and
abroad. His examination of Filipino culture and identity and vibrant style are well-known
aspects of his work.

10.)Central Visayas (Region VII)

Artist: NAPOLEON ABUEVA

Central Visayas is home to many talented artists, but one of the most renowned is Napoleon
Abueva. Nicknamed "The Father of Modern Philippine Sculpture," Abuva was born in Bohol in
1930. His works are known for their dynamism and use of indigenous materials.

One of Abuueva's most famous creations is the "Sabi," a brass sculpture depicting a group of
elongated figures reaching for the sky. It can be found at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Another notable work is the " Hinirang (Aspiration)," a series of abstract figures representing
different Filipino ethnicities.

11.)Eastern Visayas (Region VIII)

Artist: DANTE ENAGE

Tacloban City, Leyte, is home to mixed-media artist Dante Enage. He is well-known for his
paintings that frequently capture the hardships that the people of Eastern Visayas confront in
addition to the stunning natural surroundings. Both outside and in the Philippines, his artwork
has been displayed.

The artwork of Enage is a potent illustration of the creative brilliance present in the Eastern
Visayas.

12.)Zamboanga Peninsula (Region IX)

Artist: CHRISTIAN CUENO

Visual artist Christian Cueno is situated in Zamboanga City. His paintings frequently capture the
region's many cultural facets, such as historical events, ethnic customs, and local tales. In
addition, he uses oil paintings to make murals and portraits.

13.)Northern Mindanao (Region X)

Artist: NIC ACA


Nic Aca is one well-known artist from Region X, Northern Mindanao. He is a visual artist whose
emphasis on social and environmental issues is well-known. Aca is well-known for using
recycled materials and found artifacts in his installations and sculptures.

Aca has won multiple accolades for his artistic creations, and his work has been shown both
domestically and internationally. He was one of the Ateneo Art Awards' finalists in 2018.

14.)Davao Region (Region XI)

Artist: KUBLAI MILLAN

Kublai Millan is one well-known artist from the Davao Region. He is a well-known Dabawenyo
artist recognized for his stunning and inventive works of art. His creations have received
recognition on a global scale, with recent exhibitions taking place in Russia, Belgium, the
Vatican, and Italy. He is also responsible for the imaginative layout of Peoples Park in Davao
City.

15.)SOCCSKSARGEN (Region XII)

T'BOLI TEXTILES

The region is rich in traditional arts and crafts, even though information about specific modern
artists from SOCCSKSARGEN is a little hard to come by online.

The T'boli people are known for their intricate and colorful textiles, woven with abaca fibers
dyed with natural elements. Their fabrics often feature geometric patterns and human or
animal figures.

16.)Caraga Region (Region XIII)

Artist: GUELBERTO LICONG JR.

The Caraga Region is home to many talented artists, but one well-respected artist is Gualberto
"Bert" Licong Jr.. He is a visual artist who is known for his work in various media, including
painting, sculpture, and printmaking. His art often reflects the culture and traditions of the
Caraga Region, as well as his own personal experiences.

17.)Bangramoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM)

Artist: ABDULMARI ASIA IMAO


Abdulmari Asia Imao is a well-known artist from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in
Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Additionally recognized by his creative alias "Datu Inu," he is a
sculptor and visual artist whose creations are renowned for their portrayal of Islamic culture
and the way of life of the Bangsamoro people.
