SKILLS DEFICIENCY

The unemployment proportion in South Africa consistently maintains the highest

status of being one of the uppermost in the world and over the past year it has
become more problematic to fill job vacancies, all due to the high demand for
engineers and skilled trade-workers at its ultimate. Other positions that are
challenging to fill are of: skilled trades, engineers, management/executive staff,
accounting and finance staff, sales representatives, administrative assistants and
office support staff, drivers, technicians, educators, and IT personnel.

The matter of poor job performance due to a lack of job skills or experience may
pose a detriment that an unfortunate hiring choice was made. The possible reasons
behind this instance may be that the employer didn’t offer adequate or any skills
development initiative to the employee. It could also be possible that the worker was
provided efficient training but didn’t have an aptitude for the job or progression in a
job that required new skills. Other reasons include:
Positions to be filled and misalliance between employees
Excess of employees competing with vacant positions
Available jobs remaining vacant due to lack of skill development of workers

Unemployment frequency among young people is usually higher than other

segments of the population. The difficulty of young people getting hired to fill job
vacancies is credited to the lack of experience. The youth can’t attain the practical
experience that is required from them unless someone is generous and faithful
enough to hire them. If certain skills or experiences required by the employer aren’t
met by the employee, on-the-job training, skill sharping endeavours, and other
multiple forms of training.

Skills deficiency in the country of South Africa is perpetuated by an absence or

insufficiency of technical skills, which contributes negatively on employment across
many sectors of the country’s economy. The high instance of poverty among South
African youth, leaving millions unable to hunt secondary and tertiary education or
training, this factor leads to a challenge in regards of their skills development and
employment projections.

Skills development refers to the productive capabilities acquired multiple levels of

learning and training, occurring in formal or informal on-the-job settings. Individuals
can adapt in their respective fields to meet the changing demands and opportunities
of the economy and labour market.
