Storage & Archiving: NAS Storage Discussion

• NAS (Network Attached Storage) – additional storage solution for disaster recovery
planning or for expanding total system storage capacity Extended Storage
Server 1TB NAS

• Extended Storage NAS – 1TB Raid 5 +

• Additional storage from IP server
• Server sees images on local storage and extended NAS

• Backup NAS - 1TB Raid 5 or 2TB Raid 5

• Recommended as a disaster recovery solution
• If the server, hard disks fail or extended storage NAS fails,
• Backup NAS contains copies of all images/documents
– Two configurations
• Higher capacity site configured for growth
Extended Storage
1TB NAS Backup 2TB NAS
Server

+ =>

Lower capacity site that won’t exceed the initial

server capacity
Server
Backup 1TB NAS
Back-up NAS (optional):
Provides On-site disaster recovery.
=> In the event of a fatal situation (i.e. fire, flood)
patient data is recovered from the NAS
and copied to a newly configured server

RAID Types

RAID: “Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks”

RAID 1: Mirrors the contents of the disks, making a form of

1:1 ratio real time backup. The contents of each disk in the
array are identical to that of every other disk in the array.
This is found on the ImagePilot Server.*

RAID 5: Combines 3 or more disks in a way that protects

data against loss of any one disk. This is found on the NAS
and Extension NAS.*
