ACTIVITY 1: CHAPTER 1

Written Test:
1. Describe the relationship between tourism and transportation.
The transportation sector is crucial to the tourist sector. It is essentially the connection between the starting
point, destination, lodging, and attractions, which are thought of as the major components of a voyage. Both local
and international tourism depend heavily on transportation. Without affordable and accessible transportation, mass
tourism as it is known globally would not have been possible. The tourist experience and tourism at the location
both heavily rely on transportation. In several tourism studies, the primary connection between transportation and
tourism was highlighted and characterized in terms of "accessibility," which indicates that transportation is thought
to be a crucial link between locations that attract tourists and those that serve as their destinations.
Transport services differ from other services in a number of ways, including their high receptivity to
technological advancement, high capital intensity, high investment requirements, opportunities for economies of
scale, and extreme vulnerability during global, economic, and political crises.
For cities, the connection between transportation and tourism is crucial. Particularly when important events
are taking place, they rely on travelers to bring in money. The infrastructure is kept up to date and productivity is
increased by using this revenue to make upgrades. As demonstrated by previous performances, it is challenging to
estimate the precise number of tourists that visit each year. Even with fewer tourists, it might be difficult to
maintain the city's prosperity.
On the other hand, tourism is founded on very solid connections. The companies depend on a reliable
transportation infrastructure, which makes it easier and more efficient for them to deliver their goods to customers.
2. List the factors when choosing the most suitable mode of transport for goods.
Transportation Cost
The budget is the most crucial factor to take into account when choosing the finest and most appropriate mode of
transportation for exporting goods. Depending on the kind and quantity of items that must be transported, different
costs apply. It is crucial to remember that the cost of transportation affects the price of goods.
Service Dependability and Regularity
varying transport modalities have varying dependability and regularity characteristics. The choice of transport
method is influenced by how quickly and urgently the products must be delivered. Bad weather, such as torrential
rain, snow, sleet, and storms, can disrupt all forms of transportation, including land, sea, and air, and can result in
delays.
Safety
The safety and security of products in transit is an important consideration when choosing a mode of transportation.
Due to the lower losses, land transportation is more preferable than railroad transportation.
Product characteristics
The size and weight of the cargo are important considerations when choosing the mode of transportation. Fragile
and tiny cargo are largely served by land and air transportation. For big cargo, rail and sea transit are preferable
options.
Budget
Costs associated with transportation are added to the product's retail price. The amount the items may be sold for to
turn a profit is increased by the transportation expenses. Budget needs must be taken into account in that light.
