Evaluating the Sustainability and Ecological Effects of

Compostable Plastics: An Extensive Analysis of
Biodegradability, End-of-Life Solutions, and Market
Consequences

SOP (Statement of the Problem):

This research is to lessen the pollution/ microplastics in our ocean, this can be achieved by
making the compostable plastic the new normal for plastics. This would help life in our oceans
by lessening the microplastics they would consume daily, meaning they would have a lesser
chance of being poisoned. How would these biodegradable plastics perform in terms of:
1. How long it would take to fully decompose.
2. Can it perform as well as a typical plastic.
3. Will it change how people live daily?

Independent Variable:
The materials that would be used to create a biodegradable plastic.

Dependent Variable:
How well the biodegradable plastic would perform in different environments.

Null Hypothesis:
The biodegradable plastic would not be able to perform better than a typical plastic.
