Objectives:
• Discuss the different IT trends and issues both in local and international scenarios
You work for a mobile app development company that develops game apps for children aged
7-15 years old. The latest game that you worked on, uses inferential reasoning on social roles and
allows players to choose different characters, primarily a macho man or a sexy woman. The game is
used mainly by boys.
Recently, you attended a conference on gender and marginalized groups, where you described
the above. The conference delegates discussed the issue of lower participation of women in computing
and how to make the industry more attractive to women.
At the conference, you also learned that recent research has shown that more diverse teams
produce better results, mainly because assumptions are not taken for granted any more and more
ideas are brought to the table. Back at work, you realized that your production team is mostly male.
1. Introduction
• Provide a brief overview of your case.
• Describe the organization and persons who are involved
• Outline the most important and pressing issues.
This case pertains to the most current game developed for minors aged 7 to 15. Players can
select from a diverse cast of characters, most of them are macho males or beautiful ladies, but the
game also includes inferential reasoning based on cultural conventions. The majority of the players in
the game are boys.
The problem stems from the team's macho domination. The meeting made it clear that it needed
to be changed in order to get greater outcomes. The company's CEO, board of directors, and production
team are all involved in this conflict. This game has concerns because of its exclusivity towards men
and bigotry towards other genders.
2. Body
• Answer the following questions:
1. Should you refuse to work on your team? Should you ask for the team to be reviewed?
Yes, because both the game and its content are unsuitable for children of this age. The
game should. It also appeals to diverse groups of people. It's not just for boys. The game should open
to players of other genders. I understand why they decided to limit access to boys, but I don't do that
I disagree, especially if they don't change the way, so allow me to work on it, the game will be played.
The most important aspect is that it must convey the teachings and be fair. This must be gender
specific. If you want to participate, you have to participate in the game. It's our responsibility as an
adult to help shape a child into a moral being. To reply to the second request, the game doesn't need
too many changes, especially with respect to content. We are fully aware of what needs to be changed
and what needs to be improved. Verification required stakeholders need to see it good, and therefore
it should be good. Not everything acts. Immediately in a morally appropriate way. Before it can be
established, it needs to be put into a review, review, and step-by-step process.
2. Do you think that the game will sell as well if a different message was given?
Yes, I am positive that the game will appeal to gamers teens and adults since it has a large
variety of content, its appeal is mainly for men and because of the variety of the content it will appeal
to women as well. If the message of the game is simple and easy to understand, Many players will start
playing it and the fanbase will surely grow.
3. What is your responsibility, if any, in the team and regarding the games’ topics?
As a manager for the development of the game, it is my job to check the in - game content
and any future updates and also keep an eye to the programmers and direct them to make sure the
game is heading the right direction. As the head of the team, I am solely responsible for what the team’s
final product and problems of the game. We tackle and held meetings to brainstorm ideas to
implement for the game. As the head of the team, I have the opportunity to come with interesting
ideas to make the game awesome and immersive for gamers. The theme of the game is also important
for the immersion of the players into it and making it look good is my priority, I am willing to follow the
company guidelines for this. I will make this game
Yes, the messages of the game is crucial, So that players are aware of the role of the game
design, the nature and mechanics of the game, and lastly any additional information and tips that will
be later on learned while playing the game. These factors are considerations needed in creating a new
game. The messages of games are very important, for example the developers put easter eggs on
games containing secrets and hidden information not visible. It is a way that developers talk to gamers
in the game. Moreover, having a diverse team will spot a difference in the market than a non-diverse
team. Each member carrying their knowledge, experience and their vision to the project and they will
put effort to it and it will result for the final product to meet the customer’s expectations.
In recent times, there are many game companies lacking in this department and will heavily
affect the development staff and the final product. In my opinion, is still safe because when there is a
shortage or negligence, especially when the task is heavy. It is a professional duty since the profession
necessitates it. According to the definition, a profession is a paid career, especially one that requires.
For extensive training as well as an official certificate It should be suitable because it is a vocation.
Excellent or very good If there is a scarcity or if it is not diverse, the profession is held liable, if it is
immoral and violates the norms.
3. Conclusion
• You may state your position or stand regarding the given issue/s.
Developers cannot assume that their own stance is bulletproof, thus they must actively seek
out and study different opinions, particularly those buried in popular debates, during the development
process. From an anti-oppressive perspective, it is apparent that academics and professionals are not
the exclusive authority on a subject. Game designers must act with purpose and care while encouraging
diversity and refuting typical gaming myths. When developing anti-oppression video games, the target
audience, their particular experiences, and any potential oppressions they may face must all be
carefully considered. It means abandoning the notion that there is just one sort of player or that all
players approach games in the same way. It is critical to thoroughly examine the assumptions made by
game designers and developers concerning player preferences their intended audience's perspectives
and requirements.
