2. Opening statement
This is Dr. Yeasmin Nahar Jolly, Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the
Chemistry Division in Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. Being a Chemist,
the main responsibility is to monitor the environment giving emphasis on heavy
metal pollution and chemical constituents that are hazardous to the environment
and living being.
Working for the last 28 years with Nuclear analytical technique (EDXRF,
TXRF) for determining heavy metals in different environmental component
( soil, dust, sediment, industrial sludge, landfill leachate, water, aquatic
animals, fish), food stuffs (chicken, fish, vegetables, milk), body tissue
(blood, hair, nail), metals etc.
Has extensive international research and development experiences on
Nuclear analytical Chemistry obtained from Centre for application of
isotopes and radiation (BATAN), Jakarta Indonesia (1997), on data
validation at Mumbai , India (2003), Radiation safety induction course and
nutritional and health related studies at ANSTO (2004), workshop on air
quality at Korea (2015), Building Technology Capacity for Food Traceability and
Food Safety Control Systems, Beijing, China (2016)
Has been giving expert services as a group leader since 2009 for the
environmental impact assessment in the area of Rooppur, Pabna,
Bangladesh, where the construction of the first ever Nuclear Power Plant
of the country is going on. Visited Moscow, Russia as an active member in
Bangladesh Delegation to visit the Reference Plant of Rooppur Nuclear Power
Plant in Russian Federation (2017) and also participated in the meeting on
Preparedness and Response to Nuclear Emergencies in Nuclear Power Plant
(2017). Moreover , actively involved in all kinds of documentation, evaluation
regarding the Nuclear power plant project.
