In 1960 she discovered that chimpanzees
make and use tools is considered one of the
greatest achievements of twentieth-century
scholarship.

BIOGRAFY
Jane Goodall was born on 3 April
1934 in London.
At the age of 23 she began to
realise her dream by travelling to
Kenya.

BIOGRAFY
Until he sent her in 1960 to Gombe,
Tanzania, on a mission to investigate the
wild chimpanzees for the first time.
She pitched her tent in the jungle and
began her research project, which continues
to this day after more than six decades.

ANECDOTE
Jane Goodall, while studying chimpanzees in
Tanzania, observed an adult male named David
using branches as tools to fish termites from a
mound. This discovery challenged previous beliefs
about the cognitive abilities of nonhuman animals
and was a milestone in the field of primatology
and the understanding of animal behavior.
