The Academic Registrar, Kyambogo University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Master Degrees and Doctoral
programs) for the 2024/2025 Academic Year. The applicants eligible for admission shall possess prerequisite qualifications (academic and professional) as
prescribed in the advertisement. No application for admission shall be considered outside the criteria.

All Graduate Programmes are PRIVATELY SPONSORED. The University Tuition Fees indicated for various programmes exclude functional fees, research,
books, accommodation, bank charges and other expenses.

1. PhD in Social Work GDSW 5,000,000/= 7,500,000/= a) Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: social work,
(By Coursework and Dissertation) social administration, social policy, social development, sociology,
psychology, anthropology, development studies, pastoral studies,
public health and nursing, from a recognised higher institution of
learning.

b) Research synopsis spelling out the applicants’ area of research
interest for the PhD in Social work research project. The synopsis
should highlight: the tittle of the proposed study, the research
questions and or objectives to be investigated, statement of the
problem, brief literature review, preliminary thoughts on the
methodology to be used, the potential contribution of the study,
claim of originality, and potential supervisor. The synopsis should
not be more than 7 pages, formatted 1.5 spacing, font size 12,
Times New Roman.
c) Two writing samples to demonstrate the capacity of the
applicant to write in a scholarly or professional style. The writing
sample can be previously published work as a first or second
author, a chapter from the MA. thesis, a paper submitted as an MA
assignment, or a policy paper. Applicants can also write a fresh
paper on a social work issue in a scholarly format such as APA or
any other to demonstrate writing capacity. The writing sample
should be between 15 and 20 of substantive content.
d) Passing of the PhD in Social Work entry oral interview with at
least 60 percent conducted by the departments’ PhD admission
committee. The interview will assess the applicants’ motivation for
doctoral study, their knowledge of the proposed study, their career
plans, and general potential for doctoral study.
e) Two letters of reference: one from employer and another from
their former academic institution or from a person who can
competently comment on the applicants’ intellectual and research
potential.
f) A personal statement (Max. 2 pages, 1.5 pacing, font size 12, I
inch margins), highlighting the reasons for pursuing a PhD in
social work, the research and coursework experiences in
preparation for doctoral study, your past social work experiences
and how they have motivated you for PhD studies, future career
plans or goals and how this PhD will help you to achieve them; and
your reasons for choosing Kyambogo university.
