1 Introduction :
This External Removable Hard Disk Drive (HDD) kit
for the RICOH MP 2554 /3054 /3554 /4054 /5054
/6054 installs over the rear panel of the copier
and allows easy removal of the drive without
tools to increase data security. 1. 3. (1x) M3x 5mm M/F Hex Spacer (standoff)
4. (2x) M3x6mm Pan-Washer Head Screw

(spare)
5. (4x) M3x4mm Pan-Washer Head Screw

6. (2x) Key (in the removable tray) and key
chains
7. (1x) Static-safe carrying case w/foam insert

8. Removable Tray (DataPort)

3 Warnings:
3.1 This kit is for use only with TÜV Listed

Ricoh Copier / Printer / Scanner, Model MP C2554
series. The installation of this kit must be
performed by a qualified Ricoh technician.
3.2 Hard disk drives (HDDs) are vulnerable to

damage due to electrostatic discharge (ESD).
Although this kit is designed to provide adequate
protection, it is recommended to discharge static
electricity present in your body by touching a
grounded surface before manipulating the unit.
Proper ESD control practices shall always be
observed.
3.3 Hard disk drives (HDDs) are vulnerable to

shock and vibration-induced damage. Always
handle HDDs with care and avoid any impact.
3.4 Removable HDD Tray operation: Refer to

section 5. Once the kit is installed, it becomes
possible to remove the HDD tray from the copier.
Before removal or insertion of the tray, the
standard shutdown procedure must be followed
properly: First, perform a “soft shutdown” with
the main power pushbutton on the top control
panel and wait for the light to be off.
3.5 The use of multiple different HDDs is not

recommended if the encryption option is
installed. Refer to the encryption kit instructions
for the complete HDD replacement procedure
involving encryption key reprogramming.
3.6 Some parts may differ slightly from the

pictures.

4 Kit Installation: 4.1.4 Remove the two side screws securing the back
panel.
4.1 Printer Hardware Preparation
4.1.1 Perform a “soft shutdown” using the “Main

Power” pushbutton on the top control panel.
4.1.2 Remove the power cord from the wall outlet.
4.1.3 Remove the plastic over of the side panel by

removing the screws.
PLEASE KEEP ALL THE SCREWS YOU REMOVE

IN A SECURE PLACE AS YOU WILL BE USING
THEM LATER ON.
4.1.5 Unscrew the two screws used to secure the

back panel cover.

4.1.6 Remove the panel by pushing to the right, and

unlocking it from the clips inside the panel.
4.1.8 On the panel board, disconnect the hard disk

drive (HDD) inside the panel by removing the
power and data cable from the panel board.
4.1.7 Remove (gently break) the slot labelled ISDN

on the metal side-panel.

4.1.10 Slide the HDD kit out of the slot shown below 4.2.2 Use a stool to support the housing assembly
by pushing toward yourself and lifting it. or place the kit on the printer as shown below
while you continue the installation. Do not
pull or put too much strain on the cables
4.2.3 Pass both cables through the ISDN slot on the

plastic cover for the side panel first.
4.2 The Kit installation
4.2.1 To install the external removable kit, take the

housing assembly, and pass the cable first
through the ISDN slot of plastic cover of the
side panel, and then the corresponding ISDN
slot you made in step 4.1.7. Make sure part of
the corrugated tube covering the cables is
inserted into the panel.

4.2.4 Then, pass both cables through the ISDN slot on 4.2.6 Connect the power and data cable to the

4.2.9 Screw-in the stand-off in the hole

shown below:
Bracket Installation
4.2.10 Place the mounting bracket on the back of the

printer as shown so that the two holes on the
back panel are aligned with slots on the
mounting bracket.
4.2.8 Secure the plastic cover using only three of

the screws removed in step 4.1.3 as shown
below.

this screw yet

4.2.12 Use the screws you removed to secure the
bracket on the back and side panel.
4.2.11 The third leg of the mounting bracket should

sit on the stand-off you installed in step 4.2.9.

4.2.13 Take the assembly resting and place it inside 4.2.14 Align the holes on the mounting bracket with

4.3 Hard disk drive installation
4.3.1 If you are using the HDD from the bracket ,

remove both cables from the HDD.
4.3.2 Remove the four screws from the back of the

HDD bracket.

4.3.3 Use the key to unlock the tray.
4.3.4 Remove the HDD tray from the housing

assembly using the “eject” pushbutton. Press
once to extend the eject button, press again
gently to eject the tray.
4.3.5 Remove the sliding cover from the tray by

removing the two screws in front of the tray.

4.3.6 Install the HDD inside the slide-out tray:

Connect the HDD into the connector labeled
“LOWER DRIVE”. The top of HDD has to face
you.
4.3.8 Slide the cover back on and secure with the

two screws you removed in step 4.22.
4.3.7 Using four (of the 14) small supplied M3

screws inside the removable tray secure the
HDD to the tray. 4.3.9 Gently slide the HDD tray back into the
removable HDD housing and retract the eject
button if required.

5.4 It may be required to push the tray gently

5.6 Turn the copier ON and verify that the HDD

is present: From the normal copier screen, select
“System Status” at the bottom, then “Data
Storage” .The LEDs on removable HDD housing
will show activity:
Green light: Drive present

Orange light: Data access

5.7 To remove the HDD tray, first perform a 5.10 Press the eject button again gently to eject

6 Installation of the labels :
6.1 The kit includes key chains, warning and

identification labels, and a carrying case.
6.2 Install a “Match-Mark Identification Label”

(shown below) on the carrying case, and second
one on the removable HDD tray.
6.3 Install a small “Match-Mark Serial Number

Label” (small numbered label, approximately ¼” x
¾”) on each one of these locations:
 Both keychain tags.

 Removable HDD tray, on the match-mark ID label,
next to “Serial No”.
 Carrying case, on the match-mark ID label.
6.4 Install the yellow “Caution” label on the

copier, near the removable HDD housing.
6.5 Install the yellow label “Turn off main power

here” near the Main Power pushbutton on the
top control panel.
