Cristina Neagu is a Romanian professional handball player who plays as a left back for CSM
Bucuresti and the Romanian National team.Maria Covaci, school coach, introduced her to
handball when she was 12 years old.
Often considered one of the best player in the world, Neagu is the only female handball
player in history to win four World Player of the Year( 2010, 2015, 2016 and 2018). She is
also the European Championship’s all-time leader in goals scored.Even if she has one of the
most beautiful handball careers, Cristina also had some serious injuries:
During the 2010-2011 season, her right schoulder cartilage was damaged.After a long term
treatment she returned to play for our country.
In 2013, she got seriously injured again during a training session.Neagu was out for six
months after undergoing surgery on her left knee(cruciate ligaments)
A bad injury sidelined Neagu once again in the main round match against Hungary. She tore
her anterior cruciate ligament and had to undergo surgery on her right knee.

ACHIEVMENTS:
After nearly two-and a half yers of injuries, she reached the final stage of the Champions
League, when she was awarded best left back of the 2014 European Championship.
Neagu won her first Champions League trophy in 2015 after an outstanding season, topping
the goalscorers list.
She was named MVP player at the 2015 World Championship in Denmark, where she scored
63 goals, being also the top scorer of the competition.
National Team: bronze medal at the World Championship in Denmark(2015) and bronze
medal at the European Championship in Norway(2010).Along the career, she scored 936
goals for the Roumanian Team.

Cristina Neagu decided to retire after Romania’s women’s handball team came in 12th at the
recent World Championship.During her career, she played 224 matches for the national team
and was one of the best goalscorers of all time.
