There once was a teacher named Nathan

How sought an educational station

He thought he’d teach drama
As he was taught by his mama
And submitted his application

He learned he was progressivist

A philosophy that takes the best of this:
Have faith in your students,
Understanding and prudence,
And their knowledge will stand any test of it.

He gathered the wisdom of teachers

From classroom halls to the bleachers
They said to be careful
Of more work than you’re able
Just be patient and your class will be peaches.

He learned the history of teaching

About the heights education is reaching
But also the lows
How it ebbs and it flows
‘Listen’ the past is beseeching:

‘For years, schools have denied

Students their cultural pride.
But with biases revealed,
Rifts can finally be healed.
Acknowledge your part and don’t hide.’
