Dear Mr. Pope, Mr. Sandmaier and Ms. Hogan,

My name is Nathan Ray and I am a recent graduate of Emory University’s

Theater Studies program, where I focused primarily on technical theater and
dramaturgy. This apprenticeship is exactly what I am looking for to forward my career. I
have heard great things from my professors about the quality of your theater and your
educational programs, and your reputation for treating your apprentices fairly proceeds
you. Your program’s focus on furthering the knowledge of your apprentices as well as
their practical work experience sets you apart from other theater opportunities in
Atlanta.

Throughout my time at Emory I have held a variety of positions as a student and

a leader. As a student carpenter in Theater Emory’s scene shop, I worked with other
students and professional carpenters to build sets and maintain the shop, while learning
and applying techniques like joinery and precision woodworking. I served for a year as
the Production Manager of Dooley’s Players, an independent student theater
organization on Emory’s campus, I supervised build days, led strike, and I oversaw
creating and implementing the production calendar for our season. This past fall as
Master Electrician I led and supervised my fellow students in hanging and wiring lights,
and I performed repairs as needed to our lighting system and drop boxes. Working with
both a professional company and a student organization has taught me how to make the
best use of the tools and materials available to me; whether in a professional scene shop
where attention to detail and precision reign supreme, or working as part of an
independent organization to guide and teach my fellow students.

I am a hard worker and a fast learner with a wide breadth of experience. I have
lived in Atlanta all my life, and I have seen the value of Aurora’s artistic contribution to
this city. I would love to work for you and hopefully we can talk soon. Feel free to
contact me at (404) 783-8098 or nathanjray11@gmail.com.

Many Thanks,
Nathan Ray
