INTRODUCTION
Malaysia is one of Indonesia's neighboring countries that are members of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The Head of State of Malaysia is the Yang
di-Pertuan Agong who rotates every five years among the Nine Sultans of Malay State. The
nine Malay Sultans who can be chosen to be Yang di-Pertuan Agong or choose Yang di-Pertuan
Agong are Sultan of Johor, Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Kelantan, Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri
Sembilan, Sultan of Pahang, Sultan of Perak, Raja Perlis, Sultan of Selangor and Sultan of
Terengganu. While the head of government of Malaysia is a Prime Minister who is elected
through General Elections held every 5 years. Administratively, Malaysia, which is a federated
country, is divided into 13 States and 3 Federal Territories. The indigenous population of
Malaysia is thought to have originated in China and Tibet who moved south through mainland
Southeast Asia and the Malay Peninsula, then on to Indonesia. The common language spoken
in Malaysia is Malay (Zulfikar, 2021).
Geographically, the Malay world is an area that is within the location of the Malay
region. When viewed from a geographical point of view, the Malay world is very wide in the
archipelago starting from Peninsular Malaysia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei
Darussalam, Thailand and the Philippines because this country is generally occupied by

Malays. Experts argue that the common characteristics of Malays are Muslim, Malay-speaking
and civilized Malay customs but that does not mean that if not a person does not have all these
characteristics, is not called a Malay. One form of love and cultural heritage of Malay and
related to Islam is to display Arabic script in written culture (Aisyah, 2017).
Globalization is a way of view or way of thinking of a person that is broad and has no
boundaries. Currently, technological advances and developments affect life, but Arabic-Malay
scriptures or known as Arab-Jawi are still taught in the midst of society, one of which is in
Malaysia. The teaching of Arabic-Malay scriptures for the Muslim community is carried out
as an effort to introduce Islamic religious sciences such as Sufism, Tawhid, and Fiqh to the
community. The Arabic-Malay Book plays a role in culture because it is a product of the past,
it played a role in the spread of Islam. Even the spread of Arabic-Malay scriptures along with
the spread of Islam itself (Zulkhairi, 2019).
Malay Arabic script is an Arabic script that collaborates with Malay with several
adjustments and additional letters, meaning that Malay Arabic script is a mixture of Arabic
script consisting of 29 characters starting from "alif" to "yes" and added with five characters
that are not Arabic script, but script created by Malays themselves (Idawati et al., 2021). The
existence of Malay Arabic writing can give birth to several intellectual works among the Malay
community. The scholars also used the Malay Arabic script as a written communication tool in
teaching and spreading Islam to their students. In general, the Malay community better
understands the content of teachings that use Malay because the language is the daily language
between fellow Malays. According to Dila Hendriani (Rahmadhi &; Tanjung, 2020), basically
the Jawi script is an Arabic script that is used as a whole and added several letters that are
changed by adding dots to adjust to the consonants that apply in Jawi. The Arabic script consists
of twenty-nine letters. Write it from right to left, by connecting the consonants according to
their respective letters and words. Because Arabic characters are all consonants, not
accompanied by vowels.
Seeing the above phenomenon with community service carried out by students of KKN
Abroad STIE Tanjungpinang Development focuses on bridging the learning of Malay Arabic
/ Jawi / Khat at Tijarah Pintar Gallery, Johor Bahru - Malaysia. This activity will be carried out
live in Johor Bahru - Malaysia on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
