1.0 GENERAL
This calculation is intended to design for Other Foundation(PA, FD, ETC) nearby Boiler
foundation which is performed in accordance with ACI ultimate strength design method
and meets the requirements of standards and regulations.
1) Concrete
Strength at 28 days (f'c) = 30 Mpa
Modulus of elasticity (Ec) = 25,740 Mpa
Unit weight (γc) = 25 kN/m³
2) Reinforcing bar
Modulus of elasticity (Es) = 200,000 Mpa
Minimum yield strength (fy) = 390 Mpa
3) Soil
Unit weight of backfilled soil on slab(γs) = 19.0 kN/m³
Submerged weight of backfilled soil(γsub) = 9.0 kN/m³
Internal friction angle(° ) = 30.0 Deg.
Coeff. of lateral at rest pressure = 0.5 = 1 - sin30
The load combinations are prepared considering Technical Project Specification, ASCE 7-10.
Allowable Stress Design (ASD) shall be applied for Soil bearing check
Ultimate Strength Design (USD) shall be applied for the strength design of concrete structures.

4.0 MODELING
1. PA FAN & FD FAN FDN and Duct Support FDN are modeled using JOINT SPRING elements with
equivalent spring stiffness for the vertical and horizontal direction of piles, shell elements for mat
foundation and frame elements for column and equipment pedestals in SAP2000.
The piled foundations which support the structure have been defined using spring joints in the
structural model. Vertical spring and lateral spring constants are calculated as shown in Section 1.6.
2. The Duct Support foundation is modeled using equivalent springs for soil, shell elements for
bottom slab and frame elements for pedestal in SAP2000.
Shell elements for mat foundations have the thickness, respectively .

8.1 General
Pedestal design is directly performed by using the P-M interaction diagram in SAP2000. To do this, at
first, regardless of the compression and tension loads, Fz, Mx and My of each load combination are
obtained and plotted on the P-M interaction diagram so that one can know whether it is safe or not. Also,
because the capacity of pedestal in each direction (X ,Y) is different according to arrangement of rebar
and geometric configuration, it is checked for the each direction in pedestal of asymmetric shape.
Pedestal stress resultants in ultimate condition for each pedestal are obtained by using the option
"Offset" in SAP2000 in order to consider the location of bottom of pedestal which meets the concrete top
surface of base mat.

&Tens.Max
Table lists the loads to obtain the shear capacity in pedestal members. The values of Comp. Min. in
'Compression' rows result from the min. compression (Fz), max. shear of member in compression (V2, V3)
And those of Tens. Max. in 'Tension' rows result from the max. tension (Fz), max. shear of member in
tension (V2, V3) in order to apply the formula in ACI318-14 Chapter 22.5.6.1 and design the most
unfavorably. The original data is referenced from 'SAP2000 OUTPUT DATA'
For members subject to axial compression and tension, shear strength provided by concrete complies with
ACI 318-14 Section 22.5 "One-way Shear Strength" and it is arranged appropriately with the requirements in
ACI318-14 Chapter 25.7.2.1 "Ties" But in case the factored axial compressive forces do not exceed 0.1f'cAg,
the pedestal can be considered as a flexural member and ACI318-14 Section 25.7.2 "Ties" provisions
corresponding to compression member can be disregarded. Also in case the factored axial compressive
forces do exceed 0.1f'cAg, the pedestal can be considered as a compression member and ACI318-14
Chapter 18.4.3 "Columns" provisions.

1) General
The anchorage length of bars which are arranged additionally beyond the expected failure surface
to avoid the failure of concrete is calculated according to the ACI318-14, Chapter 25.4 Development of
reinforcement, Chapter 25.5 Splices ". But this can be reduced by applying the modification factor for
concrete cover, ties or strrups and excess reinforcement etc.
Side-face blow out needs be considered when the edge distance from the centerline of the anchor
to the nearest free edge is less than 0.4hef, where hef is embedment depth of anchor.

B) Concrete Property
□ Compressive strength of concrete f'c = 30 MPa
Because of overturning moment due to the horizontal seismic force acting at C.G, a half part is in tension
and the other part is in compression. So the check of concrete breakout failure should be performed
focused on this point. Considering only tension part, the area ANc for concrete breakout failure check is
calculated as expressed in "Tension Check. B" in next page.
B) Check for Concrete Breakout Strength of Anchor in Tension (ACI318-14 Chapter 17.4.2)

simplicity sake and because it is mixed with clay therefore it will be neglected except for
liquefaction analysis later. The stratigraphy of the site will follow 4 layers: top fill, soft clay,
stiff clay and claystone. The lab testing is mainly done on top fill layer and soft clay layer. The
consolidable layer is mostly the top fill and soft clay layer.

Structures Pile Dia
in Contract Design (B-A)
(A)* (B)
Boiler House Area D600 15630 m 14792 m -838 m
* (A) is based on Contrat Book I, Attachment 2, Detail Price Schedule 1.2 which is estimated by PLN
during bidding stage.
3) Reason For Change
- Total pile length is decreased around 5% at the detail design compared to contract data.
- This detail design is performed based on actual super-structure's loading data provided by Suppiler.
- In this design, pile reaction is considering up to max. 98.8% compared to allowable pile capacity.
- Therefore, pile design of boiler house area is really optimized according to actual supplier's information
and fixed plot plan as above-mentioned, not assumption by uncertain data during the bidding stage.
