Themes
The main theme of the film is the theme of the black slaves in the years 1863 since
at that time President Abraham Lincoln sent to free the black slaves, this film
touches sensitive issues today such as slavery and the mistreatment that was lived
at that time to black slaves.
I'm not sure but the main character Peter played by Will Smith is a character who
fights to be freed from abuse so the message that I understood he was trying to
portray is to fight as we saw throughout this movie is Peter trying to do the
impossible to be free and free his family.
The climax was a somewhat interesting part that happens in the last part of the
chase, this happens when will finds a ruined place and finds a dying girl and Peter
starts trying to revive her but Fassel arrives and distracts them causing peter to stop
reviving the dying girl and Peter gets angry and kills Fassel, but most of the climax
happens when Peter arrives with Lincoln's army and decides to join when he sees
how they were fighting against the black overexploitation camps.
Plot Analysis
The film emancipation makes me an interesting film because it takes a sensitive
issue such as slavery and the abuse of blacks who lived in 1863, this movie is
interesting because it is based on real events, from the beginning we see that Peter
is a very rebellious person who hates being a slave and wants to live another life
because he has children and a family, we see almost nothing of the relationship
between him and his family but through flashbacks, We see how the black slaves are
mistreated and shot if they do not do what they ask, to escape he takes advantage of
an opportunity to free everyone, and then follows a chase scene of an hour and a
half which is excessive because it does not bring much more than certain moments, I
say it is very excessive if the duration of the film both in the chase as in the film in
general.
the climax begins when Peter arrives at a destroyed house and finds a dying black
girl and he tries to revive her, when he is about to achieve it, the one who was
chasing him arrives and distracted him making the girl vanish in his arms, and Peter
is furious and kills Jim Fassel, now calmer and following the sound of the cannons
he arrives at the camp where Lincoln's army is, to help he decided to enlist to free
the black slaves and his family, after fighting in different wars, he finally arrived with
their former owners, they decided to kill them for their racist acts and free the other
slaves, he decides to look for his family but does not find them and begins to worry,
finally he finds them and they are free at last.
Cinematography and soundtrack
The special effects were somewhat good because they did not make me stop to
think that it is wrong or looked something weird, I liked the fact that the film is set in a
grayscale representing its antiquity that detail I like, but I feel that it doesn't allow us
to see the movie better, there are other movies that are made in black and white that
look fantastic but this is fine but it doesn't finish me condenser to 100 percent, also
there are scenes which are too long unnecessarily as the chase I feel it is not so
important to make it an hour and forty minutes.
The performances were good but I feel that Will Smith had the same expression all
the time but in the last 15 minutes he changes but all the time it's the same.
the soundtrack was a big plus as it didn't take me out of the movie. I felt it gave me a
more immersive feel to what the movie is.
