In the start of my research to produce Law Spurn, the first post-apocalyptic short

film I analysed was Last Man, which combined warm colours with good
cinematography and mise en scene, which made the movie a good watch but also
an amazing narrative to go through because of the build-up and plot twist.

In Law Spurn, we tried to implement similar aspects of these conventions. We

utilised good cinematography through the first scene, Rand O’ Ryder scene, and
the postcard and movie poster pictures. For warm colours, we heavily relied on
natural lighting, so this was not easily produceable. However, we still got some
warm lighting by reconfiguring the camera in the Rand O’ Ryder scene to warm.
We also tried implementing a funny plot twist by having Arbeit stab Teras right
after he said, “You made a very powerful enemy...” and then transition
immediately to a body bag with Teras’s mask attached to it. This editing style is
mostly used in memes to create a comedic feeling from sudden transitions.

Also, through my research, I wanted to add a sense of realism to the production by

having a nuclear fallout be the reason the world went to shambles, and this
would’ve been inspired by the current Russia and Ukraine war, which I think
would’ve made our short film appeal to more demographics, but unfortunately, we
didn’t implement that.
