As part of my AS film study project, I am required to complete a
location report as part of my planning. The location report will be based on my textual analysis of the films I have chosen. I focused on Inception and Kingsman: Secret Service in order to identify how the protagonists are represented. To match my textual analysis to my creative artefact, I have looked for places that will match the environments so that the verisimilitude will exists in the genres of my chosen films. In both of my films I need to present the themes of dominance, fear and fast thinking as all these elements are shown through my textual analysis films.
As I need to recreate an artefact that resembles my 9 key frames, I
intended to in-cooperate the binary opposition of man v woman. I will do this by trying to include some stereotypes that can easily reflect the themes of vulnerability and inferiority through the use of a damsel in distress as we typically expect to see women to be viewed through this manner.
I have chosen the location as it links back to the opening scene of
the film Inception. Within the opening sequence of that film we see a dramatic opening of the protagonist Cobb being washed up on the beach and being captured by a Japanese soldier. I tried to emulate this idea by having the female protagonist in my opening sequence being captured.
My location School D.T Workshop
My entire sequence will be shot in the school D.T workshop, as it is a very unusual place with a sinister twist. The area is easily accessible by both my actors and I making the shooting process easier as it is located in our school. I plan to edit the final pictures after to create a dark and evil feel to the images in order to make the workshop appear more mysterious the lowlight will contrast against the action genre due to action films normally having the tendency of being filmed in high key lighting. Thus creating an enigma as this will make my 9 key frames stand out more. The DT workshop has major risks, which is the mechanical work in the D.T workshop I chose this location as I am trying to incorporate an ominous aspect into the shot. Due to it being related to the crime/thriller genre, I needed to find a location that will match the conventions of a typical crime/thriller film, which in this case is the workshop.
