PC INSTALL SCRIPT/CHECK LIST

1. BEFORE REMOVING THE EXISTING SYSTEM:

a. Check the users work sheet identifying existing printer and mapped drives assignments (or)
b. Log into the existing PC and proceed to step #2.

Log in - User Name: dellintallers Password: installers Domain: DCGOV.PRIV

2. Go to printers and record network assigned printers (name and IP addresses assignment):

a. (Example: Xerox Workcentre-5875) record as actually defined under printers…

b. Right click printer > properties >ports and record corresponding IP Address. Ex: 10.107.14.21 (Use reverse side
for additional assignments)

3. Open my computer and record all mapped (network) drive assignments: (Use reverse side for

4. Use Dell Migration Tool (DMT) to copy full content of current user profile [ ] ______

5. Capture outlook PST file (if outlook personal folders are present) [ ] ______

A. Open MS-Outlook
B. On the Outlook page open Tools>Account settings
C. Double click on account settings to open.
D. After opening account setting; click on the tab labeled Data Files:
E. Highlight the item name Personal folders and double click to open.
F. After opening the Personal folder configuration screen, highlight and copy the path information from
the field titled filename; after copying click cancel to close.
G. Go to start menu>Run> Double click run to open.
H. Paste content of clipboard into box labeled open . Do not include file name of personal folder file; (i.e.
personal folders.pst).
I. Click OK to open the location of the Personal folder.pst file.
J. Right click on personal folder.pst file and copy to flash drive.

6. Disconnect the Legacy system. Install new Dell system.

 If new PC or component fails, the technician will:


 Attempt to identify the failed component,
 Re-seat memory chips, the video card, hard drive etc.
 If the systems continues to fail follow the process below:
 Tag the system
 Report the PC failure to the Project Office and supply the following information from the
packing slip of the Dell PC:
 Dell Order Number
 Dell Customer Number
 Hardware Service Tag Number (7 digits)
 Serial Numbers
 The Project Office will contact Dell for further resolution
 Inform the site contact that they will be contact with a resolution

7. Install New PC

Label New PC with --- Affix asset Tag Side\Rear of PC [ ] ______


Label New PC with --- Provided Agency Label (Rear\Side) [ ] ______
Label New Monitor with --- Asset Tag (Monitor Rear) (if applicable) [ ] ______
Label New Monitor with --- Provided Agency Label (Monitor Rear) (if applicable) [ ] ______

After startup, add computer account to A\D using the following format and naming Convention: -see
below for site codes

8. Modify computer name as follows:

(DHS) <Site code>-service tag# Ex. DHS_ESA-HSC-1DF37L [ ] _______

Logon as the Local Administrator: ------- Password: -------- (Generic logon information will be provided).
 Check date and time, change if necessary.
 Add the computer to the following domain: dcgov.priv
 User Name: ------- password: -------- (Generic logon information will be provided).

Restart system once joined to domain; log back into machine with provided admin account.

9. Add PC Description – [ ] _______


Right click my Computer > Properties > Computer Name > Computer Description

10. Change computer description as follows: [ ] ______

(Site code) <division\office><username> Ex. (HSC) Monitoring (M Peabody)

11. Copy users ‘documents and settings’ information from flash drive back to user’s new ‘documents and
settings’ folder. (If applicable)

12. Configure user’s O365 Outlook messaging service. [ ]

a. Logon to MS-Outlook to the Outlook Start-Up Screen


b. Click next to begin
c. Under email account select ‘yes’ then click next.
d. Under the auto set up menu enter the appropriate user information
 Users name = as indicated on worksheet
 Email address = firstname.lastname@dc.gov
 Password = use password provided on worksheet
 Retyped password then click next to proceed
e. Upon completion of user data outlook will perform a search of users account information
f. Once email account has been successfully created click finish to complete operation
g. Once outlook configuration has completed; test functionality by launching outlook. If
configuration is successful messages will begin to populate folders.

13. Configure Outlook Personal folder (for personal folder users) [ ] ______

a. Create folder titled Outlook-PST in ‘documents and settings’.


b. Copy users personal folders file (PST) captured in step #6 to Outlook-PST folder and configure as
follows:
c. Open Outlook>file>data file management
d. The data file configuration menu should be displayed
e. Select add > Outlook 97-2002 outlook personal folder file
f. In the personal folders configuration panel enter the file name and path of (PST) file.

Ex: File name= personal folders


Folder path= c:\documents and settings\outlook-PST\personal.pst

g. Click OK to save
h. The personal folder you just have created should now be present under Data Files.
i. Click close to exit

14. Install network Printer from settings previously recorded in step 2 [ ] ______

 Click Start then select and click Run


 In the dialogue box type the following to attach to the DHS printer server: \\DHSPSV
 Locate the printer identified in step 2 from the printer selection menu.
 Double click on the printer identified from previous step to select device and install printer driver.
 ( See 2. above) Ex: HP-8550DN color
 After printer installation has completed, click Start then select and click Devices and Printer
 From Devices and printer pane verify the printer assignment recorded (See 2. above) for correct printer name
and IP address.
 Once printer has been both installed and verified double-click on device to open printer status page.
 From printer status page double-click “documents in queue” icon to open printer queue.
 From queue menu bar click on printer to display printer menu options, then select properties.
 On general tab click Print Test Page to verify printer assignment and functionality is working properly.
 Click OK to close

**DO NOT GIVE USER LOCAL ADMIN RIGHTS TO THEIR MACHINE**.

Have the user contact the ITServUs @ (202) 671-1566 for if any persistent problems with applications or
printers, unrelated to services provided by hardware installation team.

15. PC Documentation and Cleanup [ ] _______

 Gather SOFTWARE/DOCUMENTATION, KEYBOARD ARMWREST (if not being used) place in a keyboard box, write
the service tag number of the pc and pc name on the box, and give to user to keep with pc
 Make sure that the cables are neat and orderly.
 Remove PC packing boxes and take to the designated area for disposal.
