Chapter 1: Introduction of the Research

The introduction of the research is the preliminary section of any research paper. This
chapter of the research paper is divided into parts: (1) a background of the study, (2) the
statement of the problem, (3) objectives of the study, (4) significance of the study, (5) the
scope and limitations of the study, (6) conceptual framework, and (7) definition of terms. In
general, this chapter provides the reader an overview of the research paper through a
thorough discussion of its background and context.

Task Context
The formulation of a well-defined research problem is one of the primary and most
crucial parts of doing either qualitative or quantitative research. This research problem is
introduced and thoroughly explained in Chapter 1: Introduction of the Research. This
chapter contains a discussion of the following subtopics: the background of the study,
the statement of the problem and research questions, objectives of the study,
significance of the study, the scope and limitations, conceptual framework, and definition
of terms.

Task Instructions Date

With your group of three to five members, write a draft of Chapter 1: Introduction of the
Research following the guidelines below:
1. Background of the study: using the approved topic proposal, write a background
of the study using a minimum of three academic sources.
2. Statement of the research problem: formulate a main qualitative research
question and translate it into a statement of the problem.
3. Objectives of the study: identify two to three objectives of the study that are
written as actionable goals.
4. Significance of the study: identify the stakeholders, benefits, and beneficiaries of
the study.
5. Scope and limitations: set the scope, limitations, and delimitations of the study.
6. Conceptual framework: construct the blueprint of the study based on the research
statement.
7. Definition of terms: define essential terms conceptually and operationally.
8. Bibliography: cite all of the sources used in APA/MLA/Chicago Manual of Style
format.
9. Adapt the revisions made by your research teacher and review the comments. If you
have no further questions, continue editing and revising the first chapter of your
research paper.
10. Do your revisions as a group to maintain the consistency and coherence of your
thoughts. Distributing the parts is highly discouraged.
11. Submit the edited, revised, and finalized first chapter of your qualitative research
paper to your research teacher using the prescribed format.
12. To submit your final research paper, create and upload a separate document file.
Submit the link of the document file.
