CPT Analysis

What is CPT?
- Curricular Practical Training or CPT is a federal program that gives F-1 visa students
employment while enrolled in a college degree program. The federal regulations remain
the same for all students. However, institutions have their own regulations to uphold.
Problem
- Students are struggling to satisfy their basic needs and are having financial struggles due
to them being unable to work beyond 20 hours.
- Degree requirements are refraining students from being eligible to work.
- Can be paid, but most of the time it is pay that does not satisfy their living needs or is
unpaid.
Eligibility
- F-1 visa holders.
- Students who get the CPT form approved through the ISSS office.
- Students in their last year/semester to get credit for the course.
Benefit
- Fulfills their degree requirements.
Financed
- The program is not financed to assist the student financially. The ISSS office refers the
student to resources to assist the students.
