INTRODUCTION:

As man evolved, information and its dissemination has also evolved in many ways.
Eventually we no longer kept them to ourselves; we share them and manage in different means
Information got ahead of us. It started to grow at a rate were unprepared to handle. Because of
the abundance of information it was difficult to collect and manage them starting in the 1960s
and 1970s Information is a very important tool that helps improve our way of life. One thing for
sure Information Age will continue to move forward and far greater than our minds could
imagine.

Biodiversity is defined as the vast variety of life forms in the entire Earth. It encompasses all
kinds of life forms, from single celled organisms to multicellular organisms, from a bacterial to
the large elephant for instance. It is the variability among living organisms from all sources,
including terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of
which they are part, this includes within species, between species and of ecosystem.
Biodiversity is the source of the essential goods and ecological services that constitute
the sources of life. Carrying capacity is important to realize when talking the sustainability of
resources. For instance, the agricultural product in a community is not enough there is a ratio of
1: 2( 1 product for 2 person) and there is a population expulsion and become 1:4 as the ratio.
Hence, there is a scarcity in the resources that the capacity of the ecosystem cannot provide
enough for the humans. It is therefore necessary to account the appropriate ways to sustainable
development.
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) is the term used for an organism created
through genetic engineering. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines as an organism
either plant, animal or microorganism in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a
way that does not occur naturally by mating or natural recombination. The development of
GMOs was perceived to help in the advancement of technology for the benefit of humans in
different industries like agriculture and medicine.

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act is to ensure citizens are informed, very essential
to a functional democratic society. Before it’s passed into a law, this draft bill is a result of a
consultative process conducted by an administration study group after careful study of
similar legislation in order to balance the government’s legitimate needs for secrecy with
the public’s right to know. This was the integral element of the Aquino Good Governance
and Anti-Corruption Plan of 2012-2016. This plan lays out reforms and initiatives that
pursue greater transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance. FOI
data is available at.https://www.foi.gov.ph/

Task 3
 Choose at least 5 government agency’s data from the Freedom of Information (FOI)
 Do the same in task number 1

Biodiversity and its Threats

Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life

you’ll find in one area—the variety of animals, plants,
fungi, and even microorganisms like bacteria that
make up our natural world. Each of these species
and organisms work together in ecosystems, like an
intricate web, to maintain balance and support life.
Biodiversity supports everything in nature that we
need to survive: food, clean water, medicine, and
shelter. (https://www.worldwildlife.org/pages/what-is-
biodiversity). In Figure 2, are the biggest threats to
biodiversity that can shaped the population’ structure
of species and can be searched through
https://www.bioexplorer.net/threats-to-
biodiversity.html/

Task 4

1. Read the ―Threats to Biodiversity‖

2. Make a graphic organizer that pertains to
major threats to biodiversity identified by
United Nation’s Environment Programme.
3. Assign the examples in each threat found
inside the box below.

Genetically Modified Organisms

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in

figure 3, are produced using scientific methods that
include recombinant DNA technology and
reproductive cloning. In reproductive cloning, a nucleus is
extracted from a cell of the individual to be cloned and is
inserted into the enucleated cytoplasm of a host egg (an
enucleated egg is an egg cell that has had its own
nucleus removed). The process results in the generation
of an offspring that is genetically identical to the donor
individual. The first animal produced by means of this
cloning technique with a nucleus from an adult donor cell
(as opposed to a donor embryo) was a sheep
named Dolly, born in 1996. Since then a number of other
animals, including pigs, horses, and dogs, have been
generated by reproductive cloning technology.
Recombinant DNA technology, on the other hand,
involves the insertion of one or more individual genes
from an organism of one species into Figure 3. GMO method
the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) of another. Whole-genome replacement, involving the
transplantation of one bacterial genome into the ―cell body,‖ or cytoplasm, of another
microorganism, has been reported, although this technology is still limited to basic scientific
applications. https://www.britannica.com/science/genetically-modified-organism

_____B. The soybeans is sprayed because it is not introduced by Glyphosate
_____C. Glyphosate is a herbicide for weeds and introduced to soybeans
_____D. A genetically crop is not destroyed because it has a gene of a VIRUS
_____3. Virus resistance GMO to yield good crop production
_____A. an example of virus resistance is a rainbow papaya

REVIEW OF CONCEPTS:

Overexploitation .The unsustainable use of natural resources and overexploitation, which

occurs when harvesting exceeds reproduction of wild plant and animal species, continues to be
a major threat to biodiversity

Climate Change. Global warming is a phenomenon of climate change characterized by a

general increase in average temperatures of the Earth, which modifies the weather balances
and ecosystems for a long time. It is directly linked to the increase of greenhouse gases in our
atmosphere, worsening the greenhouse effect.

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are produced using scientific methods that
include recombinant DNA technology and reproductive cloning.

Fortification. Golden rice contains particular minerals to address nutrient deficiency, a GMO
which referred as fortification.

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act is to ensure citizens are informed, very essential to a
functional democratic society.
