Current global technology plays an important role in the field of agriculture

(Sharmin A., 2018). Agriculture has an important role in the progress of food

production. In our country, Agriculture is dependent on rainstorms, which do not

provide an adequate source of water. So, the irrigation is utilized. is part of the

agriculture field. Water is delivered to plants using an irrigation system based on the

kind of soil.

Automated Irrigation

A smart irrigation system uses sensors and technology to monitor soil moisture

levels, meteorological conditions, and plant requirements. This information is then

utilized to automatically adjust the irrigation schedule, ensuring that plants receive the

proper amount of water at the appropriate time, hence optimizing water usage and

fostering healthy plant growth.

4

Automated Monitoring

The automated monitoring of a smart irrigation system is based on a network of

sensors strategically positioned throughout the landscape. Soil moisture sensors,

which are placed in plants' root zones, continuously monitor moisture levels to

determine whether they need to be watered. In addition, weather stations give critical

data such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and rainfall, allowing the system to

change irrigation plans in real time. Evapotranspiration sensors are important because

they measure the rate of water loss from the soil and plants, allowing for precise

irrigation scheduling. Rain sensors detect rainfall, avoiding excessive irrigation during

or after a rain event.

Internet of Things (IoT)

Smart irrigation IoT solutions use sensors to collect data on soil moisture and

meteorological conditions. This data is wirelessly transferred to a central control unit

or cloud platform and analyzed in real time. Algorithms then automatically alter

irrigation schedules, saving water and boosting plant health. Users can remotely

monitor and control the system using their smartphone or a web interface, allowing

for more efficient water management and sustainable landscaping.

Understanding how temperature changes affect plant growth is critical for

productivity in agriculture. Temperature extremes can have a significant effect on

plant development and results, therefore selecting plants that can adapt to these

conditions is vital. The study of smart irrigation systems is important for tackling

METHODS

This chapter includes the methods and techniques for implementing an automatic

irrigation system using Arduino. The Arduino platform provides a flexible and cost-

effective solution for automating irrigation processes, allowing for precise control

over watering schedules and ensuring optimal moisture levels for plants.

Technical Background

An Arduino-powered water system framework blends technology and agriculture

to efficiently irrigate plants based on their moisture levels. The most common

components are an Arduino board, a soil moisture sensor, a transfer module, a water

pump, an LCD display, and a control supply. The Arduino board serves as the

central controller, receiving input from the soil dampness sensor and instructing the

transfer module to turn on or off the water pump. When the soil wetness falls below

a particular threshold, the Arduino activates the transfer module, which starts the

water pump and delivers water to the plants until the necessary dampness level is

reached. Advanced frameworks may contain features such as portable monitoring

and control for greater access.

When working with electrical components and water-related frameworks, it is

critical to emphasize security and follow proper procedures. Point-by-point

instructive exercises and research articles provide step-by-step guidance and code

examples for implementation. By creating a programmable water system framework

10

with Arduino, you may create an efficient and precise watering system for your

plants while also incorporating innovation into agriculture.

Smart irrigation systems are a significant breakthrough in agriculture and

landscaping techniques, utilizing technology to minimize water usage and encourage

environmentally friendly irrigation methods. Sensor technology is important to these

systems, as it monitors key environmental parameters such as soil moisture levels,

weather conditions, and plant water requirements. Soil moisture sensors, for

example, provide real-time data on soil moisture content, allowing for accurate

irrigation scheduling depending on the plants' specific demands. Weather stations

linked with smart irrigation systems collect data on temperature, humidity, wind

speed, and rainfall, allowing irrigation schedules to be adjusted as weather

conditions change. Furthermore, evapotranspiration (ET) sensors assess the rate of

water loss from soil and plants, providing useful information about the landscape's

overall water requirement. This information is then processed and evaluated by

complex algorithms to identify the most effective irrigation plan and duration.

Automated control systems, such as solenoid valves and actuators, are used to

regulate the flow of water to different zones of the irrigation system, providing

effective water distribution while reducing waste.

. In addition to sensor technologies and automated controls, smart irrigation

systems frequently include connectivity capabilities that allow for remote

monitoring and control via smartphone apps or web interfaces. Users may now

access real-time data, receive warnings, and alter irrigation settings from anywhere,

making irrigation management more convenient and flexible.

11

Overall, smart irrigation systems take a comprehensive approach to water

management, combining sensor technologies, data analytics, and automation to

optimize water use, enhance plant health, and reduce environmental impact. Smart

irrigation systems leverage technological improvements to provide a sustainable

solution to water constraint and assure efficient watering practices in agricultural,

landscaping, and urban contexts.

Smart Irrigation System Flowchart

The smart irrigation system flowchart depicts an automated procedure for

monitoring and managing irrigation based on environmental variables. It begins by

reading data from sensors that monitor soil moisture, temperature, and humidity. If

the soil moisture is found to be low and there is no rain expected, the system checks to

see if the irrigation system is already operational. If not, it starts irrigation.

Throughout the watering process, the system checks soil moisture levels to ensure

they meet the target threshold. Irrigation is turned off once appropriate moisture has

been attained. This systematic approach optimizes water management, ensuring crops

get enough moisture while reducing waste.

Water Distribution and Irrigation Flowchart

A smart irrigation system's water distribution is highly tailored to supply

accurate amounts of water to different zones based on plant type and soil

conditions. A central system controls valves and pipes, which transport water to

emitters or sprinklers strategically placed within each zone. Monitoring sensors

constantly analyze soil moisture and weather conditions, allowing enabling changes
