Module 9;

1) In your opinion do you think that Rizal would retract his statements ?
 In my own opinion, he didn’t retract it. Because he had feelings of sadness, wherein
those so-called religious mentors of his were only present when he was about to be
slaughtered. He had doubts about his religion seeing for himself the abuses committed
by those leading it. He didn’t become an atheist but still had enormous faith in God in
his dying moments!
2) Hypothetically, suppose that Dr. Jose Rizal did retract his statement against the Catholic church
and the Spanish government, and you were given the chance to talk to Jose Rizal, what would
you say to him about his retraction?
 I’ll tell him that withdrawing is pointless; what’s done or written is done or written,
and the Guardians will save him regardless. Gardamit, you’d be better off sticking to
what’s written. And curses them before he breathes his last. In addition to seeing them
in Hell, your decisions are respected. I will salute you and honor you as one of our
heroes. A few years after Rizal’s execution, a tract was distributed in Europe proclaiming
that God is Dead, as stated in Thus Sprach Zarathustra. It will assuage your skepticism
and doubts. Philosophy’s consolation includes not only theology but also metaphysics,
phenomenology, ontology, and a slew of other ology’s that will keep you awake for the
rest of your finite human lifespan.
3) How do you think the history of the Philippines be written of it were true that Rizal retracted
and that he was not executed as a result ? Could there had been a revolution?
 Retraction of Rizal would have had no impact on the revolution since the revolution
was already looming by the time he was expected to retract. That would not have
changed the history since his problem was on the Catholic faith.
