During the holiday season or Panagbenga Festival, many people and tourists would most likely went to
Baguio to celebrate, unwind and witnessed the parade during Panagbenga. Baguio is really a good place
to go because of its cold weather, good food, tourist attractions and activities which you can do there.
Baguio is also a cheaper version of going to abroad because of its cold weather so many people would
want to go there. But Baguio isn’t that big to accommodate many tourists that came from different regions
and countries. So there are a lot of things that Baguio was facing whenever many people go there.
Firstwe have to dael wit h the traffic an d also dea l on where you can park your vehicles since
many parking lots are already taken f r o m o t h e r v e h i c l e s . S o i t w o u l d b e b e t t e r i f y o u
d o n ’ t b r i n g y o u r o w n vehicles or if you must, just leave it in the hotel and just commute or walk so
you can still have some exercise. But the major problem that affects our environment are the
overpopulation a nd m an y g a rb a g e be ing co lle ct e d . T h e f ir st t h in g th a t I no t ice d is t h a t
whenever it is a holiday season or Panagbenga Festival, the City became overpopulated
wherein everywhere you can see many people and its like a concert because it is very crowded that
you can almost be so closed to other people. And the other thing that could harm the environment is the
garbage collected after the parade or festival. Many people are there so the garbage fo und an d
colle ct ed are also twice or thr ice of t he amo unt colle cte d in a normal day. Whenever we
would go to a place, we should always throw and d i s p o s e o u r g a r b a g e s i n a p r o p e r wa y so
t h a t we ca n s t i l l p r e s e r v e a n d maintain the beauty of the place so that many people and future
generations can also see the beauty that we have in our country. Pollution is actually the most negative
effect of tourist influx based on my observation. I have actually several observations before or after
holiday season arrives. One of them is session road, before tourist influx I couldn’t say that the street was
spotless but to describe it would be the word “tidy”. But after tourist influx garbage piled up at every
corner of the streets. Signs of pollution was not only evident in session road alone though, Burnham Park
which was a very memorable place as a child was also affected. The lake was not the only part in the
park polluted but the whole park itself was actually filled with garbage.

The Panagbenga has become one of the country’s most visited festivals.This colorful event in the
Summer capital had drawn significant number of tourists from all over to enjoy its month long festive.
Restaurants, lodging facilities, bus station, parks and along major roads of Baguio city are full of tourist.
Non- Baguio resident and were in the city only to witness the festival, the more the tourist in the Baguio
the heavy traffic we feel. A festival has been a way to attract more visitors to come to the province, town
or a city and viewed as a means to share history, identity, values of a place and its people. But because of
these Panagbenga the city will affect the damage of ecosystem just like the air pollution and the trash of
those tourist who are irresponsible. The Panagbenga is considered significantly to the cultural and
economic development city.Since a lot of tourist attending the festival and some resident are not join
Panagbenga because of the crowded place.
