Group- project work: for ULAd 3rd year

Total mark: 15% including presentation

1. You may be asked to witness as expert for the accuracy of mapping by one of your
client. If the mapping was used to properly plan and design a bridge over a river, in
which the topographic mapping was done from aerial photograph that was acquired 10
years ago; what points will you consider and outline to your client for elaborating the
mapping accuracy.
2. If the municipality of the sub city you are working asked a 1:5000 photogrammetr ic
mapping to be acquired for 100km stretch of highway in the sub city, what components
of the photogrammetric processes are needed to prepare a base map for the
municipality?
3. If photographs are to be taken for a high way map design, with the lowest and highest
elevations of the area to be photographed respectively are 144 and 382 meters and if
the minimum photographic scale is given as 5000, then calculate the following.
 What must be the flying height above sea level if the camera to be used contains
a lens with a focal length of 154.63mm?
 What will be the maximum scale?
 Show up your final result with graphic illustration
4. A pair of overlapping vertical photographs contain the images of the ends of a ground
control line MN whose length is 9297 ft. The measured parallax of point m is 94.78
mm and that of point n is 96.84 mm. The coordinates of the two points measured on the
left-hand photograph, with the flight line as the x-axis, are as follows: xm = +31.04 mm
and Ym = +72.66 mm; xn = +20.57 mm and yn = —78.87 mm. Compute and verify the
length of the air base
5. Discuss the following in your own words
a. Photogrammetry, surveying, GIS
b. maps and photos
c. Satellite imageries
d. Principal point, conjugate principal point, photo base, focal length
e. Map and photo projection systems
6. Explain how photogrammetry is applied for:
a. Land administration
b. Agriculture
c. Natural resources
d. Flood Hazard
e. Drought prevention
f. Hydrology
g. Land use land cover analysis
h. Forestry etc
While preparing a term paper on the above points of discussion:
 Copy paste is forbidden (paraphrase and internalize the idea you got from sources)
 Term paper should have at least cover page, introduction, body, conclusion and
