Board of Studies meeting of Bachelor of Science - Electronics Programme Scheduled to be

AGENDA

Subject 1 : To review the existing Syllabi, Structure of Question Papers, Credits distribution and
allotment of maximum marks for each and every course in the 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th
semesters of the B.Sc. - Electronics Programme during the admitted year 2021-22 and
2022-23.

Subject 2 : To approve the concept of Single Major system under New Educational Policy, 2020
and to introduction and implementation of the same in 4 year Undergraduate Honour
programmes w.e.f. the admitted year 2023-24 onwards in accordance with APSCHE
guidelines.

Subject 3 : To approve the following Single Major system in 4 year Undergraduate Honour
programmes for introduction and implementation from the 2023-24 admitted batch.

Subject 4 : To approve the introduction and implementation of the following courses in the 1st
and 2nd semesters of 4 year Undergraduate Honours programme under the Single
Major system w.e.f. the 2023-24 admitted batch onwards.

Subject 5 : To approve the syllabus (appended) for the respective courses, which will be
introduced and implemented in the 1st and 2nd semesters of 4 year Undergraduate
B.Sc. Honours - Electronics programme under Single Major system w.e.f. the
admitted year 2023-24 onwards.

Subject 6 : To approve the Model Question Papers, Blue Print of the Question Papers etc., which
are already prepared for the respective courses of 1st and 2nd Semesters of 4 year
Undergraduate B.Sc. Honours - Electronics programme under Single Major system
w.e.f. the 2023-24 admitted batch onwards.

Subject 7 : To discuss and approve the allotment of Credits, Theory and Practical Instruction
Hours relating to the following courses of 1st and 2nd Semesters of 4 year
Undergraduate B.Sc. Honours - Electronics programme under Single Major system
w.e.f. the 2023-24 admitted batch onwards.

Subject 8 : To discuss and approve the allotment of maximum marks and its break-up for theory
and practical (Internal and External Assessments) Examinations and qualifying marks
for the following courses of 1st and 2nd Semesters of 4 year Undergraduate B.Sc.
Honours - Electronics programme under Single Major system w.e.f. the 2023-24
admitted batch onwards.
Subject 9 : To discuss and approve the measures to be taken to conduct Online Classes in all
courses of B.Sc. Honours - Electronics programme under Single Major system w.e.f.
the 2023-24 admitted batch onwards whenever improbable and unpredictable
situation occurred.

Subject 10 : To discuss and approve the measures to be taken to conduct Online Classes in all
courses of the respective existing programmes during the Academic year 2023-24
whenever improbable and unpredictable situation occurred.

Subject 11 : To review the initiatives that are being followed for the inclusive development of
Learning Management System (LMS) confining to courses being offered by
Electronics department.

Subject 12 : To review the status of existing functional MoUs.

Subject 13 : To approve the list of Recommended Text Books & Reference Books which are listed
at the end of the syllabi of the respective courses of 1 st and 2nd Semesters of 4 year
Undergraduate B.Sc. Honours - Electronics programme under Single Major system
w.e.f. the 2023-24 admitted batch onwards.

Subject 14 : To discuss the need of offering NPTEL / MOOCS / Online courses in B.Sc. Honours -
Electronics programme under Single Major System according to the recommendation
made by UGC / APSCHE for the Academic year 2023-24.

Subject 15 : To discuss the utilization of UGC Grants, Special Fees, and Management Assistance
for conducting National/International Level Seminars/Webinars/Workshops.

Subject 16 : To discuss the effective introduction of Co-curricular and Extra-curricular activities


that are being taken-up by the department.

Subject 17 : To review the status of the Faculty Exchange and Students’ Exchange Programmes
that being carried-out by the department for the benefit of the students.

Subject 18 : To conduct Faculty Development Programme for the faculty members with an
intention of upgrading the teaching skills which will helpful in turn to the students
relating to 4 year Undergraduate B.Sc. Honours - Electronics programme under
Single Major system.

Subject 19 : To approve the Question Paper Setters and Examiners for each and every course of
Six Semesters for adoption and implementation for the academic year 2023-2024.

Subject 20 : To authorize the Chairman of Board of Studies to include, delete and / or make any
sort of modifications in any subject(s) duly following the guidelines, communicated
by the affiliating university / APSCHE

Subject 21 : To discuss any other information, it is needed with the permission of the Chair.

PHYSICAL ANDCHEMICAL SCIENCES

Course Objective:
The objective of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the
essential concepts and applications of mathematical, physical, and chemical sciences. The course aims
to develop students' critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills in these areas, enabling
them to apply scientific principles to real-world situations.

Learning outcomes:
1) Apply critical thinking skills to solve complex problems involving complex numbers,
trigonometric ratios, vectors, and statistical measures.
2) To Explain the basic principles and concepts underlying a broad range of fundamental areas of
physics and to Connect their knowledge of physics to everyday situations
3) To Explain the basic principles and concepts underlying a broad range of fundamental areas of
chemistry and to Connect their knowledge of chemistry to daily life.
4) Understand the interplay and connections between mathematics, physics, and chemistry in
various applications. Recognize how mathematical models and physical and chemical
principles can be used to explain and predict phenomena in different contexts.
5) To explore the history and evolution of the Internet and to gain an understanding of network
security concepts, including threats, vulnerabilities, and countermeasures.

Trigonometric Ratios: Trigonometric Ratios and their relations – Problems on calculation of angles

Definition and Scope of Physics- Measurements and Units - Motion of objects: Newtonian Mechanics

ANALOG CIRCUITS AND COMMUNICATION ELECTRONICS

Aim and objectives


 To understand the concepts, working principles and key applications of linear
integratedcircuits.
 To perform analysis of circuits based on linear integrated circuits.
 To design circuits and systems for particular applications using linear integrated circuits.
 To introduce students to various modulation and demodulation techniques of analog
communication.
 To analyse different parameters of analog communication techniques.
 It also focuses on Transmitters and Receivers.

OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIERS: Definition of OP-amp, Characteristics of Op-Amp, Block
diagram of op-amp, concept of virtual ground, op-amp parameters, inverting, non-inverting
summing amplifiers analysis. Subtractor, voltage follower, integrator, differentiator, Logarithmic
amplifier.

UNIT II: (12hrs)


OP-AMP CIRCUITS: voltage regulator, comparator, Schmitt trigger. Sine wave generator,
Square wave generator, Active filters (Basics)-low pass, high pass filters, IC-555 –functional
block diagram and mention its applications.
UNIT III: (12Hrs)
AMPLITUDE MODULATION: Need for modulation, Expression for amplitude modulation-
frequency spectrum, bandwidth of AM, power relations in the AM wave. Generation of AM-
Transistor modulator. Detection of AM signals: Necessity for detection – Diode detector.

UNIT IV: (12hrs)


FREQUENCY MODULATION: Theory of FM, Frequency deviation and carrier swing,
modulation index, deviation ratio, Percent modulation. Mathematical representation of FM
wave, frequency spectrum and bandwidth of FM waves, Generation of FM signals – Reactance
modulator. Detection of FM waves - Ratio detector.

RADIO BROADCASTING AND RECEPTION: Spectrum of electromagnetic waves, Radio
broadcasting and reception, AM Transmitter, AM receiver- block diagram approach, Super

Learning Outcomes:
By successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Acquire necessary skills/hand on experience/ working knowledge on multimeters,
galvanometers, ammeters, voltmeters, ac/dc generators, motors, transformers, single phase
and three phase connections, basics of electrical wiring with electrical protection devices.
2. Understand the working principles of different household domestic appliances.
3. Check the electrical connections at house-hold but will also learn the skill to repair the
electrical appliances for the general troubleshoots and wiring faults.

SYLLABUS:

UNIT-I (6 hrs)
Voltage, Current, Resistance, Capacitance, Inductance, Electrical conductors and Insulators, Ohm's
law, Series and parallel combinations of resistors, Galvanometer, Ammeter, Voltmeter,
Multimeter, Transformers, Electrical energy, Power, Kilowatt hour (kWh), consumption of electrical
power

UNIT-II (10 hrs)


Direct current and alternating current, RMS and peak values, Power factor, Single phase and three
phase connections , Basics of House wiring , Star and delta connection , Electric shock, First aid for
electric shock, Overloading , Earthing and its necessity, Short circuiting , Fuses , MCB , ELCB,
Insulation, Inverter, UPS

UNIT-III (10 hrs)


Principles of working, parts and servicing of Electric fan, Electric Iron box, Water heater; Induction
heater, Microwave oven; Refrigerator, Concept of illumination, Electric bulbs, CFL, LED lights,
Energy efficiency in electrical appliances, IS codes & IE codes.
Co-curricular Activities (Hands on Exercises): (04 hrs)

1) Studying the electrical performance and power consumption of a given number of bulbs
connected in series and parallel circuits.
2) Measuring parameters in combinational DC circuits by applying Ohm’s Law for different
resistor values and voltage sources

4) Checking the specific gravity of lead acid batteries in home UPS and topping-up withdistilled
water.
5) Identifying Phase, Neutral and Earth on power sockets.

voltages in various types of transformers.
7) Observing the working of transformer under no-load and full load conditions.
8) Observing the response of inductor and capacitor with DC and AC sources.
