Celebrate Lunar New Year:
Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year or
Spring Festival, is a 15-day festival usually celebrated
in China and other Asian countries. They usually do
some rich and colorful activities like the lion dance,
dragon dance, and more. Lunar New Year celebrations
center on removing the bad and the old, and
welcoming the new and the good. It is a time to
worship ancestors, ward off evil spirits, and pray for
a good harvest.

What is Hijriyah?

What is Hijriyah?
The Hijriyah New Year is another name of the Islamic New Year which
marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar year. The Islamic
calendar which is also known as the Hijriyah calendar is based on the
lunar cycle, unlike the Gregorian calendar which is solar-based.
The Islamic New Year starts on the first day of Muharram which is the
first month of the Islamic calendar. To fill in specific dates, the years
also vary because the Islamic calendar is around 11 days longer than the
Gregorian calendar. The New Year is set by the full moon which
indicates the beginning of Muharram month.
The New Year in Islam lacks the pomp and circumstance that adorns
some other cultural New Year celebrations. The contrary is true, it is
usually viewed as a time of thought, prayer, and remembrance. Muslims
might think over the previous year, ask for forgiveness for all their
misdeeds, and make New Year's resolutions.
Some Muslims may additionally mark the New Year by visiting mosques
for special prayers, listening to sermons, and doing deeds of charity
and kindness. It's time to renew one's spiritual life and to re-commit to
one's faith.
The Islamic New Year is not as widely celebrated as the Gregorian New
Year with festivities but is important religiously and culturally for
Muslims worldwide. It commemorates important historical events and is sus.
the time of migration (Hijra) of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to
Medina which occurred in 622 CE and marks the beginning of the Islamic
calendar.

the Gregorian Calendar’s New Year (1st
January)

For the Gregorian New Year, we stay in our
home and eat dinner together before New Year.
When it is New Year, we launch fireworks
outside our home and celebrate together.
After the
celebrations, we usually make our New Year’s
Resolutions and pray together before we all
go to
sleep.
